As the principal zones have been in use for several years, It’s obviously not a problem for the majority who daily commute into inner cities by car.
That’s a false argument from a motorist organisation that’s using unsubstantiated hyperbole. Who are these people and how many are affected on a regular basis ? Presumably mainly small artisans, with very elderly vans or trucks, as people who are unable to afford a ten year old car are unlikely to doing daily commutes into central Paris unless they’ve got free parking (Our car is ten years old and it’s Cat 2)
If there are false arguments, surely they won’t stand up to scrutiny and the ZFE’s won’t be voted out of existence ![]()
If the Zones are scrapped it will be because the combined majority of right and left believe this would be politically expedient.

But new cities were constantly being added, were they not? Nantes (and others) came under ZFE just this last January, I think, adding to the misery of people who lived there who couldn’r afford new cars. Etc, etc…

True, but the number of ineligible vehicles has been declining and will continue to do so, not least because of increasingly strict CT emissions regs. Furthermore, a proposed amendment to only retain the Paris and Lyon Zones was voted down.

Newer cars, I havent ever bought a new car
Mine is 13 years old, only done 47,000km from new and is Category 1 sticker.
Mine is a 14 year old Peugeot 207 hdi. I mistakenly thought is was going to wind up as a Critáir 2, based on the date it was put into service, but it’s a 3. It’s got plenty of life left in it and somebody has to drive it- might as well be me.
I tend to see much older cars in regular use in France than the UK, and it’s likely to be those at the bottom end which this has eliminated as usable. Although the system of ZFE has been in place for quite some time, it seems from the above anecdote that those who’ve needed to have found a way to break the rules without getting caught too often.
Suspect most of these vehicles are usually outside France’s relatively small ZFE areas.
But suspect that many are ‘outside’ the CT areas.
Auto Moto recommend you keep the sticker for the meantime still on the windscreen as legislation is not finalised and some cities still require it to enter.
I’m not an chemist Robert, nor an expert on diesel calorific values, but I’d bet you a pint that’s not down to an imagined difference between UK and French diesel.
Great for him. not so good for the kids with asthma. My lungs were knackered as a kiddy growing up in 1950s London smog.
I don’t care if the owners of polluting cars have to walk, if it prevents kids born today from having the problems I have.
