If it wasn't France, where else might you live?

Along with Huish Episcopi, not forgetting Curry Rivel.

Somerset, Devon and Dorset - counties with the best names.

For the faithful there’s Huish Episcopi, nr Langport

Piddletrentide and Piddlehinton in Dorset. Catbrain and Norton Malreward, outskirts of Brsl. Westonzoyland, nr Taunton.

A forebear of mine made his way the 45-odd miles from Westonzoyland to a country estate on Exmoor, stole a sheep and ended up being transported to Aus. @toryroo may have come across the decendents of this crim, surnames Nation.

If it’s the same, in the States they have ‘swamp coolers’ where a huge fan pushes through a series of hessian mats with cold water running through. Is that it?

Probably not, I am aware of swamp coolers. The post is a long way back, if you could locate the posting number?

I can NOT wait to get out of Texas. I’ve lived here twice; once for 4 years in chiropractic school (Dallas), and now for the past 6 years (Houston and now rural west of Austin, originally for a job). The state is a disaster. Yes, there is great Mexican food. Yes, BBQ, too (if it’s your thing - it’s not mine). The varied topography and scenery is fantastic. But it’s truly a toss-up between Texas and Florida as to which is the absolute most dismal in literally every other aspect of life. Especially as we head into winter with, once again, an electrical grid far below standard. It’s one of the top three states with people leaving (Texodus) -as well as entering - ironically, the most influx and outflux is to/from California for each state. US News & World Reports (2023) ranks Texas as below.

If this appeals to you, come on down! You “might could” afford real estate - away from the cities!

You are right, I don’t know Dr Mark very well, in fact not at all. He has now explained to me that what I saw as baiting is actually just friendly banter so I was worried for nothing.

There’s plenty else in this world to worry about, without the need to worry about my posts.

If your heart is big enough and if you are happy to involve yourself then i could point you to various posts provided by mikep.

I get worked up when I think people are being brow beaten but I’ll get over it!

‘Milep’ ? In for a penny, in for a pound.

That’s a very generous offer, Karen.

However, it’s possible mikep might be less familiar than J-AR or indeed @toryroo and @David_Spardo with the previously cited blog on Australian dinner party etiquette.

Exaxtly.

It’s possible that in some parallel universe there may well be a Barry McKenzie guide to the subject,

or perhaps a politically incorrect Monty Python sketch …

Do I get a veiled apology too?
As you have said and others noticed you are indeed having a bad day but venting your feelings on the innocent will not change that, it just upsets people.

My grandfather worked at Curry Rivel Stores in the 1910s for a while which is next to the village of Hambridge where his family lived. My great grandfather was the mill manager at Hambridge.
My grandmother worked Langport for a while and later my grandparents bought the Supply Stores at Queen Camel which they owned and ran 60 years.
