If you have cancer don't close your mind talk to an oncologist

Ps: I’m going to pull this stuff into a separate thread, possibly this evening when I get to Bonn depending on how late, if not tomorrow or Monday. It’s not really appropriate here and some people might wish to mute discussion of cancer.

Not really in the cheerful category, discussing cancer issues.

Whilst I understand the sentiment we are surrounded by it or its affects, talking about it at least people dont feel they are the only one, when you get diagnosed there is an overwhelming fear of isolation.
That said if people prefer to stay silent and end this for now I am happy to do so.

Never having had cancer or family with it either I have found it most interesting but on the wider question of whether to remove posts to a new thread I am not entirely in favour of that. This is because many threads have drifts without anyone objecting and also because said drift often arises from posts precisely on topic so to remove any to somewhere else risks losing valuable infor from the originals. Don’t most thread drifts drift back to the topic anyway, eventually?

It is possible to buy mouthwash that is alcohol-free - e.g. by Corsodyl.

The active ingredient in most over the counter mouthwashes is 0.2% Chlorhexidine Digluconate.

I am using this (the alcohol-free one) at the moment as I have been having sore gums and it does help I find - though it is to be used a maximum of twice a day, and obviously in conjunction with normal tooth brushing and flossing.

I find that a salt water rinse is also effective at calming oral discomfort (dissolve a teaspoon of salt in hot water and then add cold to adjust the temperature to a comfortable warm level).

Dont forget to tell the NHS :joy:
I am very familiar with Chlorhexidine, I designed a swimming pool filter with a medical porous plastic which is permanently active with chlorhexidine, kills almost everything in seconds. It was too expensive to manufacture and Dr Dryden came out with his self sterilising glass filter media so glad I didnt spend too much on that. Hope your gums feel better but worried about your mouth microbiome and therefore mucosa. One doctor who studies nitrous oxide production in our bodies said it would prevent the signalling for nitrous oxide production in our bodies.

My microbiome will no doubt recover once I have a tooth out next Thursday and I don’t have the current infestation.

(Sorry TMI)

The dosage of Chlorhexidine is very low and it’s only twice a day as directed.

Obviously if you swilled or drank gallons of the stuff it would not be good.

I don’t think the subject matter was an issue at all. It was it’s discussion in the ‘cheerful news’ thread that people were objecting to, hence shibas comment

Billy said he would seperate the comments into a new thread when he got the time, but he’s obviously busy at the moment.

But we do have a Not in the Cheerful News category thread.

I suppose to give later readers the opportunity to select if they’re strong enough to read it, should the posts from here needing to migrate be put into a new
thread eg

  • "Not Cheerful News - ’ Health , ( or ‘Medical’) "
    or
  • Not in the Cheerful News Category - ‘Health’ (or ‘Medical’)

So evangelists with strategies that have been sucessful for them can share, but also anybody worried or had some nasty news or in the process of following medical steps can share. To g2ive the option to anybody who’s not feeling strong as to when, or if they open that thread

I seem to remember starting such a thread many months ago, but not sure what the title was to search for it. Something like Not Suitable in the Cheerful News thread I think.

But my point above was not for people wanting to post such views, but for those who get involved in a discussion which legitimately wanders from the original point. Not easy to shift without leaving previous, and therefore puzzling, views out.

Here it is:

Not Applicable in the Cheerful News Thread, started back in 2022.

Not sure how it would help us here though where we have cheerful news which wanders.

As promised I have taken this thread out of “cheerful news” - yes, there is the “not applicable for cheerful news” thread but I don’t see this discussion as necessarily negative - people get the “all clear” from their oncologist all the time and there are folk like Jane for whom treatment works well.

I’m happy for the discussion to cover alternative treatment such as Fenbendazole and Ivermectin - but don’t expect me to agree with anything to do with quack remedies.

I think this is more a problem in the 'States where many people can’t afford reliable mainstream meds - in fact the single most significant factor in how long you survive advanced cancer in the 'States is whether you are insured, and even then not all policies will include the newer, more effective therapies.

Unfortunately this leaves desperate people vulnerable to false claims by quacks who will happily take their money for junk treatments. There are fewer I consider lower or more despicable (except perhaps “The Orange One”) than these individuals that peddle false hope.

This is strictly an “if too painful - mute” thread.

A very thoughtful approach.

Absolutely, we want things that are possibilties not rubbish. Its tough enough to get through but better if you feel you are not alone. You hear people say “why me”, I never went that route mine was “why anyone”
The good thing is the French health service is so good, the UK on cancer is also good.

Just wondering how my post about a comedy programme ended up in a cancer thread.

Sorry David, had to select posts manually

As so much medical research starts with testing on animals …

David’s post should have been restored to the correct thread.

I would not normally tease out posts into a new thread just because of drift - as you say it’s a fact of internet life.

We have the “stay on topic” tag but that is reserved for threads which must not drift and there are a couple of threads that I think are not exactly appropriate for that level of control but nevertheless will be better if they more or less keep to topic - and that is the “midweek humour” thread and the “Cheerful news” thread. Also this is an emotive issue - Corona and I arguing about horse-worming tablets is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea in a thread ostensibly about good things happening in people’s lives.

I once accidentally bought an alcohol based mouth wash, Listerene I think, never again.

As frequently advised by dentists.

We do and I considered it - but decided that wasn’t quite right.
