I'm muting all political threads now

Whilst I don’t agree with that, less and less people cook from scratch now for various reasons especially the younger generation.

Yes, and I think the ‘for various reasons’ is key. Can’t cook is very different to won’t cook. Frankly if I lived in some HMO in Hoxton with 5 other people, and had the entire world in food on my doorstep, I would probably choose to cook only when I actually wanted to, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t know my way around a kitchen if I need to, or want to, cook something. Yes the ‘metropolitan elite’ is perhaps a minority, but it is one of the many reasons and an example that perhaps it’s not that they don’t know how. The HUGE numbers of cookbooks, blogs, vlogs, apps etc aimed at millennials and gen Z would suggest there is certainly interest in cooking from younger generations. Perhaps it is like the Food Network in the US where their research showed people watched the channel in big numbers, but did so because they liked to watch other people cook, having no intention to actually try the recipes themselves. I dunno.

It frustrates the hell out of us that our two sons spend crazy money on takeaways when from a very young age they were taught how to cook.

Like someone else said earlier somewhere, that seems to be the direction of travel. Quite a few flats being built lately don’t even have a proper kitchen,.just a little corner to warm food.

Interestingly he seems to have previously been a member of the Labour party (as a Labour councillor) until 2018 when he was a naughty boy and they reprimanded him. I guess he’s a natural fit with BJ as a self-seeking and ethically questionable individual, though his experience of food banks is likely genuine.

Thanks for the link Kirstea, but I don’t do FB.

With another Tory MP arrested, this time for sexual offences I think I may mute political threads also.

Some have suggested it is Mark François MP but I couldn’t possibly comment.

Whilst on the subject of Conservatives… I came across this gem -

just how true can that be?

Looks like the 2 by-elections, triggered after a petition in the HoC was approved today, will be on 23rd June…

TBH I don’t really care who it is, provided justice is served & they’re punished if guilty or exonerated if innocent.

Cut to the chase here, surely more effective just to mute politicians?

Lee Anderson maybe a halfwit but he’s not northern

The Conservative Chief Whip has withdrawn the whip until the Police investigation is concluded (at least) right before these by-elections…
There are a considerable number of MPs under investigation right now for serious potentially criminal misdemeanours.
What a den of inequity!

Yes, neither do I, it felt icky just going on to watch it myself which was why I provided you with an expert blow by blow commentary of the whole thing :see_no_evil: :joy:

It says he’s from Ashfield in Nottinghamshire. Cheshunt is about as up as I liked to go, anything higher is definitely ‘the north’ to me

But there’s an irony when people comment about the government neglecting the north yet call the East Midlands the north

I think there would be more of an irony if I had commented on the government neglecting the north, there would be a correlation between the two things. Perhaps people who care are focused on the government neglecting the north actually know where it is… :woman_shrugging:

I was born more or less on 57°N, everything south of the border is southern

Lee Anderson is a complete fool, as evidenced by any speech he makes in the HoC. Here is the Hansard record of what he said last week.
