Importing UK car now practically impossible?

Yep - I second that! The Douane are only interested in obtaining the duty and TVA on the car! They care not a jot if the car conforms or not!

BUT, despite it not being needed, it is wise to be sure that the car one is importing does have a CoC, or will satisfy FFVE before driving into Douane as I have been told that if one cannot register a car after obtaining the 846A, can be a pain in the butt to export it and get a credit for the 846A…

I looked up FFVE. Our car was first registered in 2018 - not vintage etc. I may have had a CoC emailed to me by the time we cross or if not soon after.

The towbar and cycle rack are both less than six months old.
Assume I will need to declare them and pay duty/VAT and customs will be interested.

well, they’re second hand now, so value drops (?), and already fitted to the car (I presume)… so fingers crossed you might not get stung too badly.

Fixed that for you.

Hi, i am new here and hope everyone is well.
I would like to ask something if not a problem,
I have been asked for an export certificate of a car exported from Uk.
DVLA said that they dont issue such a certificate, that the cars is marked as exported and with the log book you coukd register.
Anyone knows how to get this certificate.

Thanks

Who asked you Paxon?

Do they mean this?
Certificate of. Permanent Export (V561 )

Sorry, I forgot to mention.
When online I need to fill a form called E705, and to complete the registration, they are asking me for this export document.
Dvla says we dont supply any export document.
Maybe in the past, but not now.
Now, I cant register the car

Are you trying to import a car into France or Belgium…?

As @Adam1 suggests, are you sure you’re not on a Belgian website, as French forms tend to be CERFA followed by a number.

Yes, it’s a Belgian form.

can I clarify something with regards the CoC being mentioned here? I’m going to be importing a UK 2016 mercedes b class into france as part of my relocation. the CoC - is this obtained from, in my case, Mercedes UK? or does it need to be obtained from Mercedes france?

I’ve imported 2 cars (Land rover, range rover). First time made the mistake of going to JLR UK and the CoC was not accepted. So I’d strongly suggest Mercedes France.

I’m no expert but when I got the CoC for our VW, I emailed Germany and they sent it, by email and by post. I’m using Mark Rimmer’s service, and he didn’t mention there’d be any problem.

Have you thoroughly checked your Mercedes folder… all the paperwork which came with the car??

My 2006 UK Mercedes had the CoC in umpteen different languages (including French) in it’s document bundle… and in 2012 when the Registration was done at the Prefecture… the Clerk needed a magnifying glass to read the French print, 'cos it was so small
Then another Clerk came over to help her … pointed out something on the V5… tap, tap into the next-door computer and… hurrah… all was well. :+1:

Yes, Mercedes UK used to include the CoC, if I remember on a yellow paper in the bundle.

I do not know the B Classe at all well, so make sure, when you do get the CoC it has ‘EU conformity’. If it does not, it will be down to something easily rectified such as lights.

Just checked my filing cabinet… and there’s the yellow A5 folder with the EEC Certificate of Conformity inside it.
Instructions on the outside of the folder: “Please keep safely, not inside the car” (in several languages)

However, if section K on the V5 is completed with the “e” number… the CoC might not be needed

(headlights on my merc have a switch/adjustment for european roads)

I would be interested to know how you get along with the process @whatsisname as considering buying /importing a Mercedes from the UK, some thing between 2005 to 2015 , nothing newer as the quality of build and relibility is these day closer to French cars unless you can offord a high end model.
