The latest revelations from Mr Y Fronts show that senior ministers were expressing disappointment a year ago.
I suspect Starmer’s social media ban (which would be laudable if effective) is his legacy, which means he’s accepted he’s going.
Though I read a suggestion that he might be appointed Foreign Secretary in a Burnham government, which would seem a good use of his strengths.
Would he accept that though, being removed as PM and then coming back in a less senior role?
I suppose it depends on how proud he is. I don’t think he is very proud - he’s stubborn and too ready to take spin advice, which goes with his profession - and I do think he understands the importance of serving his country, unlike Johnson/Truss/Cameron, say.
And if he’s thinking of legacy, and I think he is (because of his ideas about service), then he knows how successful he has been on the world stage already.
Interesting, too, that he was considered sufficiently dangerous for Putin to try to smear him with the male prostitute fabrication.
It’s an important week for the government and Starmer’s immediate future, if Burnham wins the by-election then I expect he’ll make moves for an immediate leadership challenge, on the hand, defeat for Burnham will see Starmer stay in No.10 for the foreseeable until Streeting and Rayner decide enough is enough.
Yes the next 96 hours will be very telling.
I agree that victory for Burnham means it’s over for Starmer, but I’d say defeat for Burnham means it’s over for the Labour party.
Win-win situation then?
I think you are right on the latter point. On the former, time will tell.
With the G7 in progress and suck ups still placating the orange idiot, listening to the mono tone Starmer was all I could take from TV news tonight.
I thought the orange thug wasn’t looking well…
Wishful thinking?
I couldn’t possibly say. ![]()
Are we allowed to gleefully anticipate the demise of those we don’t like on SF now?
Should I post my Deadpool List?
No - let’s keep it to those we dislike OFF the forum. ![]()
Ahhh, therein lies the road to perdition, Trump has taken everyone he doesn’t like out. Not a good formula for active and meaningful debate, is it?
To be honest, I haven’t read the whole thread but I’m pretty sure Burnham will be no better than Starmer. A nicer bloke, certainly more charismatic, but he’s U-turned already on some of his previously held positions. That’s too Starmer for me, I’d prefer a man for all seasons. Anyway, I wish him the best.
As an aside, I dislike Starmer’s accent intensely. The little spiv Streeting seems to have the same accent, but a little milder.
Anyway, this episode was a winner…
It’s disappointing, isn’t it. He doesn’t seem to have learned the lessons about why Starmer is unpopular and he’s boxing himself in in similar ways.
I believe anyone who seeks to gain the position has to drop many of the ideas they may have in order to follow the party donors wishes and wants, there is the fundamental peoblem with politics.
That’s almost as bad as not being able to eat a bacon butty properly
. Maybe they should all talk like Boris. It’d make them better prime ministers, wouldn’t it ![]()
I refer my learned colleagues to Douglas Adams’ view on those who would be elected.
Oi !!
Only joking. ![]()
