Back in the UK we had an account with Majestic Wines. One promo they had was for Douglas Green SA Chardonnay. So we bought a case. It was a beautiful wine - probably the best chardonnay we have ever had. So we bought all the stock from the local store but wanted more! Fortunately the manager’s brother was the manager of the Majestic store up in Scotland. He had about 25 cases. He just happened to be coming down to Lincolnshire to visit his brother so we bought all his stock and back then we would drink a bottle of wine in a night. We had almost finished our supply when we came to France and came over with just 3 cases. It soon disappeared ! but I’m glad to say we don’t drink so much these days. A bottle of wine usually lasts two days and we’re in to gewurztraminer these days. Neither of us drink red wine. ![]()
Neither do I, but I lean to sweeter these days, Rosenhof white sec with a splash of cassis before dinner for my Kir, and, if still in the glass , with the main course, then Porto Blanco with the cheese and finally Calvados with my coffee afterwards as I retire to the recliner. Trouble is I often miss the middle section of the evening in such comfort. This evening I must have dozed off about 8pm and awoke at 11 with a small amount of cold coffee/calva still in the glass. ![]()
Thus I missed a documentary I really wanted to watch, that Jeremy Bamber might, after 40 odd years in gaol for murdering his family, be innocent, presumably because you can’t get parole if you don’t admit the guilt, a bit like that bloke who did 17 years for rape. A bit skewed isn’t it? Only the guilty go free? ![]()
But I am wandering, nearly 3 in the morning and surely the time for bed, after time served in the recliner to add to what is left of the night. Thank goodness, no appointments in the morning. ![]()
That’s our usual bed time David. We are late risers too -Je me lève 9am!
I actually retired at 4.30 and reappeared to the world at 10.20, Very unusual (between 8 and 9 is more normal) and I blame it on my long repose yesterday evening, normally I am abed by 11.30 then settled down by midnight after reading. ![]()

Yes but where is the map of edible fungi?
They may be edible ? ![]()
I like the idea that if you took all the underground fungal networks and strung them all together, they would stretch to the edge of the solar system ![]()
Interesting article in today’s NY Times comparing MAGA’s values with those of Vichy France.
Free link at:-
Very interesting. MAGA values also make me think of life under Franco as described both by people I know and in books.
This wasn’t exactly the predicted outcome 10 years ago..
The reason they can do this ? The US government can’t copyright it’s own works ![]()
Fed up with wokeness? Immigration? LGBTQ? Lack of religious beliefs and values in society?.Then Russia’s Shared Values visa might be the one for you! Incredibly there are people who move to Russia from the West..

And they are thinking of building tunnels between a couple of the Shetland Islands to avoid having to build and maintain expensive ferries. Goodness me what else, they’ll be doing it under the Channel next. ![]()
They should do that between Westray and Papa Westray in the Orkneys ![]()
Good.
