Is Nevers a good location for a gite business

Phew, so glad not Nevers. Felt a bit bad about being so negative, but I was worried for you. This sounds so much better…good luck🙏

Thats really useful to know, re Ryan Air. I couldnt find anything on those flight searches, it was getting a bit frustrating as it said flights did go from UK - Bergerac and then you go on their actual webpage then nothing.

Lol we have found any kind of traditional riding clubs don’t like our colour piped stuff, for many years our customers battled the Pony Club to be able to use it, but they have relaxed a bit now. Our Dressage Bridles might be popular though as they are beautiful. Location wise we want to be more south though, but it won’t stop us marketing to french riders though and pushing our brand there.

I just checked there are 11 equestrian centres with in a 30 minute drive, the place we like is smack bang in the center! Just for the future of course!

I think there may be a misunderstanding here.
If you intend to register as a micro entrepreneur (which works best as a 1 person business although it is possible for the spouse to help in the business as a conjoint) everything is calculated as a percentage of turnover. Your cotisations are a percentage of turnover, I think around 12 per cent, and your income tax if you opt for the forfait is also a (very small) percentage of turnover. So on a turnover of 188k, if this is allowed on micro entrepreneur, your total deductions for cotisations would be nearly 20k.

The allowance for expenses is built into the calculation and is reflected in the lower rate of cotisations that you pay as a reseller. Professions libérales for instance pay cotisations of around 24 per cent of turnover because their expenses are much lower. But on all cases, you declare actual turnover with no deductions.

Thanks, I will make sure I clarify all of this.

I think just a language issue “we will be able to deduct” actually means that the fisc do this.

Comes to the same thing.

I think they are mostly seasonal, not at this time of year.

Were we going to continue with our business we would do a big shake up in marketing. My impression is that proprietors develop the business to achieve what they want, and don’t necessarily change marketing strategy if it works for them.

But despite new changes I still think lots of potential. If currently aimed at a single nationality then target others for example. If not much in shoulder seasons look to offer deals for couples - they are the ones that travel then. If the base is solid then you can build what you want.

I agree! Ultimately we are wanting a nice base to build on, then we can decide if we really want to expand or just have a bit more of a chill life!

With 4 gîte, 3 pools, lots of land and another business :joy:? I don’t think so. Stripping and making a dozen or more beds in 38 degree heat with only a few hours to do it is not chill!

There are loads, depending on the time of year.

Whole area is seething with 'em.

‘No, nay Nevers no more…’

The Morvan area to the east of Nevers is pretty hill country; but it’s way down on the list of preferred holiday areas for international tourists. A gite near Nevers would be best marketed towards French customers, as it’s easily accessible from Paris.

Nevers nevermore!

Well this thread has certainly put me off planning to visit :sunglasses:

That’s the problem with forums comments by others often put people off visiting areas that they themselves might enjoy. As has been pointed out the surrounding countryside is beautiful and for anybody interested in history there’s a lot to explore.

You may be right.

I’ve seen Lenin and Chairman Mao so maybe a sleeping beauty nun should be added…

I live in Bourges, the main town of the area called the Cher with Nevers on the edge of South East corner.
The Parisians would say Bourges is quiet.
People from Bourges say Nevers is more than quiet.
We found it sad and boring. Not to mention the train service.
You have made a wide choise to look elsewhere.
