It's not cow burps

I believe it’s a major pillar of the French economy. Due to France being an abundant low cost producer but external - and also domestic - buyers of electricity are still paying the market price for a more expensive fuel.

I believe they all get paid the higher rate but don’t quote me on that

Inspirational to see them all drinking away in the morning, setting the tone for the Nation. If only HS2 had produced such a convincing public information film :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

The pub looks great. my sort of place :slightly_smiling_face:

Still there at closing time I note :slightly_smiling_face:

One year I got a job as a Christmas postman, after the second day the postmaster had a word with me, I had two of the largest rounds, I was told to slow down as I was doing the rounds in record time even with the extra xmas post. He told me to string it out abit, go have a cuppa with my Grandparents or deliver the mail my local pub last & stay there for a while.

I had that making fire alarms in my student vacation job ! Then hoping to keep me busy they put me onto the very complicated solenoid-making machine (I think) that only 1 lady knew how to use. Then they realised I might actually learn it and go faster and (for those who read Eli Goldratt) this bobbin machine thing was a key bottleneck part. So they moved me on to something else rather quickly.

Dense though I was, I eventually got the hint and spent lots of time away from my workstation making tea for everyone

Happened to me as a teenage school girl working in Dorothy Perkins behind the counter (those were the days) as a Saturday job. All keen and ready to help, I was told to step back as I was selling too many pairs of stockings and taking commission from the other full-time members of staff.

Quite the contrast to today where more and more frontline retail staff are tracked on apps to ensure they’re hitting their various quotas throughout their shift! As always the upsides of technology (store plans, stock information, ability to instantly contact colleagues or other personnel) has some rather less positive aspects that you’re effectively monitored constantly.

KPI, miss used is a cruel stat. A friend is a top performer at his company (help desk) he suffers from poor health but is consistently the top person. He had a bout of poor health and naturally his stats went down but he was still higher than anyone else. The manager came round to his flat with HR and they gave him a warning.

My advice was to get the hell out, as top producer he wasn’t given any pay increase due to this slight dip in his KPI, lesser producers got a small increase.

When prices peaked due to the war in Ukraine, the French government forced EDF to break the link between it’s electricity prices and the EU wide price in France. That’s why we paid substantially less for our electricity than in the rest of the EU and the UK. The government calculated a reasonable profit for EDF and made them work on that basis. Prices still did go up, but that’s because at least some of their costs did increase due to the rise in fossil fuel prices.

I felt really good for France when they did that. Then took a look at the UK response and continued response.

Sorry it’s FB but it shows how we are not the same as France. Our UK gov charge the energy companies levies which get passed on to us the consumer and we pay higher and higher charges even if the electricity was free. What a daft situation.

Forget the banks, it screwed up the beds!

owners of Eight Sleep’s $2,000+ ‘Pod’ mattress covers found their smart beds had no offline mode and were stuck at high temperatures and odd positions in the night.

Does rather serve them right for being daft enough think they need to buy a smart bed rather than, well, a bed

Seems neither the beds nor their occupants were very smart.

Far better to spend much less than 2K bucks on the best mattress for your needs.

I would have put them to sleep for half that :joy:
