King Charles's speech

Still a beacon of intelligent, thoughtful journalism.

I think the government told him what to say.

The Guardian says it was a collaboration between Charles’s aides, No10 and the Foreign Office. I think Charles would have wanted some input.

That’s brilliant, George.

Dear me. I knew he had bad taste, but… The place settings for the state dinner with Charles.

That’s how it normally works but the principal has the final say on content and tone.

Having previously been involved in a speech when he was Prince Charles I would say so!

I think he’s doing a good job. I didn’t think he would and rather hoped that William would take over, but now, I think he’s generally good news - a certain kind of gravitas with a bit of a twinkle. I think he’s enjoying himself.

Well, he did spend rather a long time in training for it.

Incidentally, wonder if it’s worth placing a bet on whether or not that blingy dinner service will remain in the White House when Trump departs - Mar-a-Largo or the planned Trump ‘library’?

If the next president has any taste, they won’t want the blingy dinner service. Personally I think gold cutlery looks terrible and wouldn’t want to eat off it.

Don’t disagree, though unlike silver plate, gold doesn’t tarnish.

Trump has tarnished thevwhite house already. It will take more polish to re establish friendships
