The EDA factory shop is just around the corner from us, so if you want something we can bring it for the price of a cup of tea.
This is very solid, sits on windowsill and does not knock over easily even when nearly empty. Quality control good as lid always fits so no insects in and handle is solid and keeps it nicely weighted away from you as you walk it to the garden compost heap. Costs more in other countries. Surprisingly capacious.

Last day for free delivery to your local pickup for min. order 10 euros is today Lots of 50 cts stuff on the website eg dishwashing brush (quite decent) to make up the 10 euros.
Yes Angela, I got fed up of having it in the kitchen bin and decided to deal with the veg/fruit waste more frequently. A reasonably sized bowl is not too heavy to take to the heap and I do get a bit of exercise ! I add lots of water because the weather has been so dry. At one point the compost heap went flat and the worms had disappeared. It obviously wasn’t working. But it’s recovering now and yippee, I believe we’re in for more rain tonight and tomorrow.
I hope you find a suitable solution !
Thank you @JaneJones and @KarenLot for your suggestions, both of which look promising - I shall reflect… (thinking about it, can you use that word in that wayin English? I think I’m getting too inculturated )
My partner agrees with you about bin emptying frequency @fleur - we definitely need to change what we are currently doing because we don’t want to muck up our smart (for us) new kitchen!
Small counter top lidded bin from SuperU or perhaps Intermarché
Should have gone to Spec Savers
Can’t help with the compost bin, however a paste of soda bicarbonate might get those tea/coffee stains off your cabinet.
Thank you @Tice-Tice - I’m a big fan of sodium bocarbonate - I’ll give it a go!
For cups, mugs, glasses, metal flasks, etc, Astonish works a treat at removing even the worst coffee and tea stains and is extremely economical.
Lakeland and from time to time in other places like Aldi in the UK.
And every supermarket in France.
Will look out for it! We actually bought the little bin you suggested @KarenLot and are pleased with it. We have to empty it every day but have a bigger container in the barn to empty it into in case it’s bucketting down like just now and we don’t fancy the trek down the garden straight away.
Just make sure you get it from the cleaning products aisle and not the bakery aisle. It’ll be many times cheaper.
