Leasing a car in France as an expat

I’m not sure that you do. I had a long debate on one of the Faceache Strictly groups on this because I couldn’t find anything that said you needed to be a taxpayer. Despite the Strictly groups being adamant (at that time) that she assertions needed to be supported by official references, they were all insistent that you needed to be a taxpayer but I’m still waiting for anyone to provide a reference.

I don’t think you do, you just need to buy/lease an eligible car.

I had to provide my latest tax return to prove I qualified for one part of the deposit reduction

I did too, but I think that was to show I could afford the lease.

Might have been for both, didn’t really take much notice once I knew I was getting the (€4k) deposit reduction .

If you’re working - and only if you’re working - and earning no more than about 16k euros pa then thevsocial leasing program, hugely subsidised ev rentals, kicks off at end Sept I think 30th. You have to need the car to do work or get to work, to qualify.

As last time it will be swamped with applications on Day 1 so the press is saying contact dealers and get your quote set up now ready.

It’s actually a kind of subsidy to the motor industry, by which we mean 99% European car manufacturers ahem, whilst also a social leasing program

I think that was exactly the deal she mentioned.

do you know how much per month it would be?

Yes, there were two different allowances, one of which was based on income but I was considering the other. I didn’t go for it eventually as it was better to buy it without TVA.

“les pièces justificatives des revenus sont les avis d’imposition”

it is slightly academic now as the system has been replaced by certificates of energy. However the bonus écologique for VE was dependant on one’s revenue fiscal de référence as there were levels of support depending on income. So you didn’t need to pay tax, but did need to be in the system and declare in order to get an avis d’imposition to prove this.

And

I don’t really want to replay the argument here but those income limits played into the scrappage allowance, not the €4000 discount.

I even had written confirmation from Les impôts that a tax return wasn’t required.

Wow! We certainly had to produce one to get the bonus - reduced in our case as RFR was over lower threshold.

The footnote here says that the tax return isn’t always required. If I recall, les impôts said that, because I wouldn’t be claiming any of the low income elements, then a tax return wouldn’t be necessary.

Your 4k off should have had nothing to do with income Jane, as ours didn’t. It was for all cars under a certain price point. Maybe your dealer was confused.

Praise the Lord

It was €7000 as I recall.

It’s also for those of us who cannot afford to pay for a car because we do not have the capital, but can afford the monthly payments. And it does not have to be a new car, ours is 3 years old (I think). This was not a vanity purchase but real need as our merc was very elderly and beginning to cost us big bills.

I apologise if this has been discussed before but I’m looking into leasing a Renault 5e and on the Renault site the quote of €120 per month is qualified by this line

déduction de 6 302€ de prime CEE

I’ve tried to find out who qualifies for a CEE grant but can’t get any sensible answers. Any help would be appreciated

Go speak to your friendly Renault dealer (take a tax return with you) and see what’s available. Just be aware that the €120/month figure is for the most basic model and doesn’t include the obligatory finance insurance.

Yes, and €3000 was income related, €4000 wasn’t.

Yes thanks for that and having looked at various leasing deals in practice the amount quoted on on the internet is always a lot lower than what you get in practice. This €4000 grant is it fairly permanent or is there an end date? We’ve decided that an electric car would suit us best but would like to take our time. At the moment it seems to be be between the Renault 5e and the C3e
