Well after almost a couple of months of freedom the problem has come back to bite me with a bang again. This time not both but Avast alone and more vicious than before, the popups cover 2 inches down the right side of the screen with no gaps and no clear time.
Thus any advice to get rid is impossible because the menu I need is obscured. But during my efforts I discovered that Macafee is still there, removed it again but still there, and with Avast as I was able to get to their Clear Avast programme which is supposed to kick it right into touch. Did that twice, each time getting a message All Done Now, but after rebooting the bloody popups are still there.
To make my temper even worse, I brought the laptop to the PC to get advice from the latter. Might have been ok if I didn’t keep getting confused and using the wrong mouse and keyboard for the wrong item. The open window in the nearby kitchen veranda was tempting and the only thing which stopped me throwing the bloody thing out was I knew Jules was getting a bit of a bronzy outside.. 
At one point I lost everything except Avast including the Kindle app, the only reason I want it for. Managed to get Kindle back but it is of no use because I can’t see a quarter of the writing on the screen.
After 2 stressful hours I gave up and will probably read my Kindle book before even going into the bedroom, here on the PC which, fingers crossed behaves correctly all the time.
Sometimes, being Fred Flintstone seems an ideal way of life to me.
