There’s a school of thought that some cancerous cells don’t produce PSA (since they’re mutations) so can present with a low PSA reading.

My 1st prostate exam in France, in my 50s at my request - a safety precaution - involved a nurse bathing my privates with betadine, then squirting some betadine up and into, internally, and leaving me there for a doctor to arrive. He came in a little later with an ominous thick black tube in his hand with camera and lights attached to one end and an eyepiece the other. I assume an internal ‘look’ at the prostate via the urethra was enough in those days. No finger job. Clear.

My 2nd, in my 60s, was having to get to a clinic with a full bladder so that a technician could scan how much urine I was carrying, then told to pee and come back for another scan to see if any urine remained. Then I was asked to roll over so he could insert an attachment up my backside to photo and measure the dimensions of my prostate, so that next time the measurements and shape could be compared. Clear.

My 3rd, in my 70s, was the same as the second but no prostate dimensioning involved. There was sufficient urine left in my bladder, after peeing, for the technician to say that my prostate was enlarged. That was followed by a PSA blood test and an eventual diagnosis of benign enlargement.

My PSA in 2025 was 1.33. That’ll do me!

The only finger job was at a 5-yearly free comprehensive medical examination involving numerous specialists for different age groups and sexes. I was asked to assume a Muslim praying position, naked, on the bench I was sitting on, with my bum up in the air! Clear.

90% of Prostate Cancer Tumors Contained Microplastics https://share.google/tjF41Gp1iBxbNyLyU

When will we start treating micro plastic like asbestos.

Interesting, but I’d be cautious before changing from correlation to causality. It could be that microplastics accumulate in growing tissue more than maintaining. Assuming the data to be real.

Yes very true, I try to avoid any endocrine disruptive chemicals and the fact they are present is worrying enough.

Even in breast cancers, the papers I have read that look at the tumours find estrogen present and the medical world seems to have jumped straight to causation where others say correlation and disfunctional mitochondria are the most likely cause.

I would add, micronised particles of anything. The added bonus with plastics of course, is that they are often manufactured with additives that are indicated to facilitate passage of the transmembrane walls of cells, as are some of the plastics themselves.

Yet lowering oestrogen makes hormone sensitive breast cancer regress in most patients - all other factors being equal.

Yes, it’s a bit of mine field. Consider my wife 66, would not be producing very much estrogen compared to a younger woman. However they do not take a blood sample to see where the starting level is, they just hand out a pill. We had private blood tests prior to her taking estrogen lowering meds. Level, 30pg/litre. After 4 weeks on the estrogen lowering meds, level 60pg/litre. Oncologist blamed the lab, Randox, pretty good lab, scheduled a test via NHS hospital lab, level 89pg/litre. Stopped meds as clearly going in the wrong direction. 4 week washout period and another randox lab test, level down to 18pg/litre. Oncologist response, don’t bother with blood tests! Well that’s science for you. So please excuse me for again being sceptical.

When I was sent for a digital examination on my prostate, I was erroneously expecting some high tech, computer controlled, procedure

Give AI five years and it will be a robot with no bedside manner

Yes but does AI have finger to do that examination

I’m sure the right attachment can be fitted..

Oh yes it has. We’re now old enough to be interested in the resuslt :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
