Is it a drawer one or a mini oven one? I’d seriously consider looking at the minor oven style airfryer, like I cooked the chook in when you were here. We literally use it every day, more than once. I don’t think I’d find the same with a drawer airfryer. Before Louis and his GF moved in it was big enough to cook whole meals for the 3 of us and I rarely even used the neff. The neff is big enough to prepare food for the 5 of us and I’ve not turned on my big oven for literally years, 3 or 4, when I bought a whole pork leg.
I have an all-in-one oven, microwave and grill. It’s fab. I can do jacket potatoes in 11 mins that are slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. It’s a tiny bit bigger than the microwave it replaced.
Agreed. This is what we’ve got.
And we too use it every single day. Can’t remember when I last used the conventional oven.
Re: comments above about health implications of plastic in air fryers-
My first thought was about all the cases of them catching fire. The very first microwave I bought (in the early 80s) was a Tricity secondhand one purchased from an ex-employee of the company. She had received it as a gift for many years service with the company. It was the full size flagship model Mico/conventional oven/with grille. A real monster and very heavy. I loved it but had to sell it on when I downsized. The only experience with a similar combo unit was shortly after coming to France. Much smaller and a total disappointment. It only lasted just beyond the warranty period. Something made by a high end manufacturer might be worth a gamble but since I only use one to reheat coffee and soften butter a simple small one is good enough. Cheap ones only last a short time but they are affordable.
Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I have been looking at the combination ones as @Arcalia uses but things , as @hairbear mentioned, I might well need to put it on the woorkctop rather than the space I planned, for safety. PIty as worktop space is a little restricted.
@toryroo is quite right in that the air fryer I trid is the drawer type. I shall also look at Ninjas after @SuePJ 's recommendation.
I really appreciate all your comments!
How big is the space? Our Neff combo is one that can be built in, so all heat sealed really, we don’t have it built in at the moment, it is just sitting under the work top on a shelf and as I say does micro, oven and grill. Happy to measure if it would help.
If you would, @toryroo , I’d really appreciate it as it would give me some idea of what might be possible!
Now that is lovely looking! I genuinely wasn’t sure if I’d get on with an airfryer, I knew the drawer ones weren’t going to work for us with the quantity of chips my hubby and boys require. So we got a cheap one from Lidl as a trail but honestly I think after looking at how nice that looks that will be on my list to get when I sell a house
What is the tray on top for?
It’s not a tray, it’s part of the heating I guess? Never really thought about it. ![]()
Get an air fryer. They are not an alternative to a deep fat fryer as the name implies, but a mini oven. Good brands are Philips, Cosoro and Ninja. Lidl have one on offer at €40 which seems too cheap. I heat croissants, cook pork chops, fries, pies, boiled eggs, all sorts. I think it is used almost every day.
Good comment, I wouldn’t have bought if I hadn’t known that and, for some time afterwards insisted in calling it an air cooker. But not much point if people don’t knowhat you mean. ![]()
Do air fyers have grills though? And do they get hot? Just thinking about the amount of space needed above them…
I think it depends what you want to “grill”. Certainly our combi oven makes the cheese toppings of eg lasagne etc nice and crisp and brown and it says it “grills” on the airfryer settings. Does the machine have a specific setting where the top of the oven glows red and looks like a traditional grill - no it doesn’t
Very interesting Sue - thank you!
I can’t see if it glows or not but it certainly grills because I make toast in it. The outside gets quite warm too.
That’s the bit that bothers me…
What make have you got @David_Spardo ?
My ex neighbour who has moved down the road has a Whirlpool combination microwave and oven which she swears by. She now has a tiny kitchen, well, no kitchen until I fit it for her next week ! It has vents in the side but not the top and the top doesn’t get too hot. It’s quite old and you can’t buy that one now but may get something similar.
Sounds perfect! I shall carry on the hunt …
