I’d imagine the CEO’s of the big arms companies (Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed etc) are already wondering how many zeroes to add to their bonus cheques
So Biden’s visit was a trade mission?
The UN ruling on Israel and Palestine is in, and these are the responses so far by various nations:
TBH it’s in line with what you’d expect. The US knows Israel is breaking the law but doesn’t want to do anything about it. The UK will think about it some more before giving an answer that will commit them to one or other side. Pretty much ROW agrees with the UN to varying degrees depending on alignment with Islam.
This will of course provide China and Russia with leverage to replace the US as the key supporter of Israel (probably explains the conflicted US response).
The Great Game is in play, and lives of Palestinians and Ukrainians are put pawns
Based on current behaviour and leadership, I think Russia and Israel would make well matched bedfellows. Russia of course is less genocidal, less fanatical and much poorer at propaganda, but it could learn from Israel. The problem is that Isreal has no deeply embedded, insidious lobbying infrastructure in Russia, unlike in the US and UK.
I can barely believe Israel these days.
This makes for uncomfortable reading, mentioning sexual assault on a prisoner.
Do you believe that large numbers of Russian soldiers sent to Ukraine were conscripted from ethnic minority regions by accident?
I’d really no idea of the breakdown, but the attached article seems quite authoritative. They reckon 70% of the 45,000 casualties were ethnic Russians.
I’d say nobody in any area of Russia is safe from conscription.
Interesting that it took Ukraine two years to kill 45,000, but Netanyahu managed nearly the same tally in only nine months.
And Netanyahoo’s tally is largely non combattants, women and children. What a great boast to put on your CV. The creature is even worse than Putin.
The mistreatment of prisoners has been highlighted for months. Released palestinians, including medical personel have reported on the harsh conditions they suffered.
For the authorities to have taken action one can only assume things are even worse than previously feared.
Ben-Gvir is, of course, in the middle of the trouble making.
Giving complete power to some over others is clearly a recipe for cruelty
Destroying captives identity starts long before their incarceration. Name calling and referring to any human as ‘vermin’ or in any way less human is a warning sign.
Interesting analysis of the possible outcomes from the Haniyeh assassination.
I think Israel is playing to the home team, as the Al Jazeera writer points out
the assassination of Haniyeh has helped restore confidence for many Israelis in their security and intelligence apparatus
The October massacre demonstrated IDF and their government is not invincible. An elected leader wants/needs to restore support.
I think so too, and anything they can do to delay a ceasefire and keep the hostages with Hamas will help them hold out against pressure to stop killing Palestinians.
Nice going Ireland, providing a tax haven to businesses that support the illegal settlers on Palestinian land.
There ought to be a black heart we can push for that
Israel is looking increasingly isolated as the UN vote they end occupation of Gaza.
TBH I don’t expect it to make any difference and things have gone way beyond conventional recovery now, but if they could leave and take the settlers with them it would be a start.
So pleased that my adopted country, France, voted in favour but disgusted that my country of birth, UK, should sit on the fence in the face of such outrageous offence to fairness when a superior country occupies another for so many years.
And what about Ukraine, will they expect us all to vote for a Russian withdrawal from their territory in years to come. I hope not, disgraceful.
And the irony, Russia voting for a resolution expelling a foreign army. Who would have thought?
I read her garbled article, and her “investigative” report, and her few Guardian coauthored articles from 2016/17. She’s rather confused One of her references in her article is to an article by the editor of the Irish Marxist Review. Which was a real hoot to read
She doesn’t give a damn about Palestine, otherwise she wouldn’t be knocking the most pro Palestine country in the EU. It’s Ireland’s corporate tax regime and capitalism she and her pals are banging on about. And not even in an informed way.
If she wanted the facts on Ireland’s support she should have contacted the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign who are doing a superb job.
Reporting facts is supporting terrorism - the Al Jazeera office in the PA controlled west bank is shut by Israel.
