I lived in London and loved going to Carnaby street and Liberty’s and Biba with my mother in the late 60s early 70s but I was 5 or 6 so I can’t remember much more than my gold glitter wellies from Biba and going on the slide in Kids in Gear (and Harrods - especially the petshop - because I could walk there by myself).

She would have liked to - but I remember Mary Whitehouse more as a figure of ridicule than serious threat to the social progress achieved in the 60s-70s - as indeed initially was Thatcher (milk snatcher!).
It wasn’t until the mid-80s - most obviously perhaps with the 1984-5 miners’ strike - that I remember the political and economic tragedy unfolding in the UK becoming clear.
What is often forgotten is that she extended a Labour policy to withdraw free school milk rather than start the policy itself.
