Another Pomplamoose fan here. I also enjoy Tatania Eva-Marie, the Hot Club du Nax and, farther from the mainstream, Le Boy Manouche.

D’Anno was singer when I was naughtily visiting the local pubs etc and Clive Watsisname on drums before Nicko. Dickinson was later when they began to get big and stopped the clubs and pubs circuit but he has the better voice. I have the DVD of Scream for me Sarajevo which gives another side of him and is extremely good, back to roots stuff. Family went to see the Foo Fighters, Dogstar and believe it or not as tickets were very cheap, Barry Manilow over the past few weeks, they try and do a concert every month.SIL was not really interested but ended up singing and dancing along when he recognised some of the songs and poor old Barry was really struggling as he cancelled everything after that one. Bryan Adams and ACDC was last year along with another favourite Ghost where the lead singer is not disclosed.

The older I get, the broader my tastes have become. That said, as someone who used to be pretty knowledgeable about music, I find myself somewhat embarrased by my lack of knowledge on modern pop/headline acts. The occasional new act finds it’s way through to me but, in general, I’m clueless! And by new, I realise I mean near on the last 20 years! It’s like I grew tired of the Blur/Oasis type debates and just walked away to find new fields.

I was a deejay for years and I can tell you that you haven’t missed much… Modern music is indeed absolutely rubbish. :sweat_smile:

I quite like Charlie XCX… but basically, I have eclectic tastes that fade and come back with time and mood. Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Bowie, The Clash, Georges Brassens, Nic Jones, Nick Drake, Nick Cave, Abba, The Beach Boys… I’m not sure this isn’t becoming a self-test of my memory now. You know, I don’t want to believe that but I suspect there’s a degree of truth in it. Every now and again I’ll hear something that gives me hope but I’m not getting to it via traditional methods. I’m hearing it on a film or tv soundtrack for instance. I’m indebted to people that know the underground, or non headline, music scene and then passing it on.

It sounds like a grumpy old man cliche, and perhaps one that was ever thus as suggested, but the business of music sucks.
