I’ve had my eye on this for a few months. It keeps getting relisted but nobody seems to be biting. It would make a nice little runaround during the summer. It could put the Meharis that emerge from local holiday homes garages every year in their place
The long stroke 970 S, not sure about the open bellmouth carbs, bloody noisy and ring wear could be bad, deffo needs a K&N filter.
I see they have removed the heater take off so no heater presently for winter.
Great fun though, my last drive was 1985 when I hired one in Macao.
Willow Green Mini Van.
I went everywhere in that rust heap and the 848cc of throbbing power actually managed a top speed of 55 mph on the slight downhill section of the St Olaves to Herringfleet road, with a following wind of course.
Buy it! You will not see another like it! A good 970S engine is as rare as hens teeth these days.
I’d like to know what final drive ratio is fitted as with a high revvy 970 and a light body, it would be easy to create phenomenal top speed with a 2.9, or have it climbing the sides of a house with a 4.3!
The only engine fitted to the 60s Moke was the 850. The blurb in the ad referring to the number of S models made does not refer to the Moke, so to get a French plate, do not import it as a 970S (unless the modifier has altered the records with DVLA to show this. Then it will be a modified classic with FFVE and then has to go to DREAL) FFVE will want to see evidence of an unmodified car through photos. This would mean obtaining a single SU carburettor from an 850 and doctor the manifold to fit just for a photo - easy peasy. There are other giveaways thhat the engine is not an 850, but unless FFVE employ someone who knows every nuance, these will not get noticed. Having said that be careful, between them and the Duane, they are not fools (I am battling to bring in a Europa that has an incorrect engine for its year that they picked up…)
I am surprised there is not a brake servo, but maybe the car is so light, it is not necessary, but I think it would benefit from one. The Miniltes do not look to me to be 5", but it could be the photo, but worth a query and certainly query why the breather tube on the rocker cover just vents to atmosphere - with 9 miles on the clock, OK, but wait until 900 and not so clean! I do not see the necessity of the additional Kenlowe fan that will become seized after the first flurry of mud from the front wheel! Otherwise, yes, nicely put together!
We had some dignitaries over from China back then. I had sold it to my mate who was 6ft 4 and he was showing them around the factory. I had the carpenter make a large clock winding key and we fitted it to the door handle .
Our Directors were laughing at it and one of the Chinese wanted to buy it
I had a burnt orange mark 1 Ford Fiesta with 4 gears that vibrated insanely at around 50 miles per hour. Oh, and a manual choke which I’ve never seen since.
