That’s a good point about the handle. It was a childhood nickname that I often use online. I hadn’t ever given it a second thought, but now you have pointed it out, it made me chuckle.

They cost €35 and should you need two per 10 year passport life they can only be ordered separately within the validity of the main passport so timing for a second card is critical.
I decided to obtain one in 2020 and have never used it other than once trying to use it entering France pre-brexit. The PdF studied it then asked for the normal passport which they knew I should also have so I complied.
That’s a pity. My wife and I use ours all the time in and out of Nice airport. It’s also handy as a conveniently sized (for those that don’t have/need a CdS) ID when in France or elsewhere in the Schengen Area.
You don’t need to carry your passport with you to enter (or leave) France with the card.
