Unfortunately you have been misinformed.
You do not need to get temporary plates unless your car is currently unregistered. You can use your current ones during the registration process in France. Once registered here you can surrender your Czech plates.
If you are stopped while on Czech plates but are a French resident you can have your car confiscated & sold at auction.
A French CT will suffice for registration but you will need to visit your regional tax office to obtain a quitus fiscal.
You will need to use a third party to process the application with ANTS, the French registration authorities. Make sure you donât get an idiot!

However from those auctions it is not clear what the initial offense leading to the impounding was⊠I even tried up looking the law earlier (different fines and such, but could not find this particular offense either way).
I guess they could confiscate it but I would be surprised if it would be auctioned off after a court hearing⊠In any case I will have to try to deal with this whole situation somehow. Thanks for the info, also the other posters.

Means that you must be in the motor trade (like me) to be able to buy these cars.
The prices are a reserve price.

To sell a car to a private individual requires the seller to provide a CT less than 6 months old (or 2 months if it fails). This is not required when a car is sold to the trade.

If you dial up âVans/left hand driveâ on eBay you will see a number of vans for sale, not a million miles from Dover, that have clearly been confiscated, sold to the trade by HM Customs . The vast majority are on eastern european plates.
Maybe try GĂ©olocaliser des professionnels habilitĂ©s Ă lâimmatriculation to find a local expert?
Unlikely to be HMRC and, more probably, âon the road checkâ police seizures for insurance and/or DVLA residency offences. My local RPU is very active in this process. If unclaimed the police will send them to auction and, being lhd vehicles, may attract dealers close to cross channel ferries.
