Permission to take leased car out of France

:rofl: :rofl:

there’s been some oddball stuff in between… including getting the title changed to help clarify… :rofl:

what is blazingly obvious “now” was previously somewhat shrouded in thick fog :wink: :wink:

…yes thanks, careless error on my part, too much focused on getting the substance of the text right and forgot to check title, one wrong word changed whole meaning!!

I’ve done more research and it does seem that the general rule for car finance companies in EU and UK is that if you don’t possess the vehicle registration document ('cos it’s on lease) then you need authorisation to take the car from its home country

So having realised that yes it is a mandatory (and not to be ignored!) to get permission to take a leased car to Uk…(as you do if you take your uk leased car to France ) has anybody done this for a VW car on lease through VW France?
You can get infomation on their web site and there is a phone number but it seems only for existing customers as it needs an agreement number to get in and as I’m only at the stage of considering this i’ve no contract but i would like some idea of the cost and process…Two dealers gave me contradictory information…so anybody have experience of this?

It applies across the EU as well. It’s designed to stop people who are resident in one country having a car registered in another country to avoid tax and fines. I bought a French car before I had changed residence from Belgium to France. I checked with my local Belgian police station and we wrote up a document for me to carry in case I was stopped by police or customs. It was valid for 30 days.

Just follow the rules. Then you will not have any problems. It seems that there are a lot of Brits driving around with uk cars in France that have been here too long and are not registered or insured. Fine until you have an accident or get pulled over.

With “fine” being the operative word. :slight_smile:

I would imagine the requirement is partly because it does happen that leased cars have to be repossessed due to payments being defaulted on. If they let people take their cars out of the country without permission, good luck with that;

Having reflected on this, I must admit I took our leased R5e to Ireland for a month last Christmas and never even thought about getting “permission”. I just had a copy of the CG in the glovebox.

“Had a copy of CG in glove box” that’s the critical issue if you sign up for a leased car here (or in UK) then the leasing company retain car registration doc aka CG and which is why you have to get this permission document from financier (owner) which indicates that you have permission to use the car and to take it out of the owner’s country.

Yes, as it’s the first leased car I’ve ever “owned” I never even struck me I might need some extra documentation.

I don’t think you need any extra documentation/ permission if the CG is in your possession
