Tell me where about and I’ll say it for you, I’m down that way regularly 
I lived for many years in a few places near Hebden Bridge but never in the town itself. I worked for many years in Saltaire, a large part of which is a World Heritage site.

Ditto, and that roundabout was always a highlight. The poor cows were immolated several years ago during a gilets jaunes protest, but on our October visit I saw that a few slightly less detailed beasts had returned! Hurrah!
I know both areas well, we were in Hebden earlier this year, just for the day. Salts mill is always busy, haven’t been for awhile, I’ll have to plan a visit the book shop there always has something interesting. I’ll pass on your regards when I’m next in the area.

If we have time with our trips to England or the Netherlands, we go cross-country so that we can see some of the French countryside. We live about 1.5 hours south south east of Limoges. We avoid the toll roads altogether, pitting TomTom, Organic Maps and another map app against each other, and finding a nice route, even if we have to put in waypoints. We might spend an overnight somewhere - looking for a place before it gets dark. Best of luck.

We must be quite close!
We are going there first to have Chirstmas with our son. As yet undecided if we’ll stop or push through. It takes us 11 hours (he lives in Reuver, Limburg). We usually do a bit of motorway and cut across near Auxerre (sp?). Any route you’ve found good?

It is difficult to tell because we take a different route every time. 
If going to Limburg, your best bet would be to avoid the paid motorways and most motorways, and take the countryside roads, and go via Luxembourg, bottom to top. DItto avoid motorways in Luxembourg. You might pass near Vichy or Montlucon, Dijon, Metz, Nancy if going that way to Luxembourg, but not going into the cities, avoid them. We have been that way to have a change of scenery to the NL, otherwise we take a different route to the Netherlands: sometimes passing near or via Gueret or La Souterraine, Nevers, sometimes Parc Naturel Regional du Morvan towards Auxerre but avoiding Auxerre and heading in the direction of Tonnerre, Troyes, or towards Dijon, Chaumont, Neufchateau, to name a few town that we may pass. We either go right or left of Reims but avoid it.
Those towns are a few that I can recall. As I say, we vary the journey to/from the Netherlands greatly but avoid Paris at all costs.
We live about 30 minutes from Tulle towards Argentat sur Dordogne.
You might have to put a bunch of waypoints into your satnav to force it to go in the direction you want. We often ask Tomtom to take the shortest route and then discover it isn’t the shortest route and force a waypoint to make the route straighter. It does get rather interesting - when you pit different satnav apps against each other! You can almost imagine one app swearing because you’ve deviated off its route to follow another app’s route if it seems more interesting.

Not very helpful for recommending a stopover (I usually trek back without one), but by way of general info, if patronising a genocidal colonial project matters to one’s consumer preferences: both AirBnB and booking.com service properties in the occupied Palestinian territories - crimes under international law in several respects, not to mention the laundering of proceeds from unlawfully-appropriated assets. They’re on the UN’s blacklist.
Agree Paris is to be avoided. It used to be feasible (departing Med, passing East-of, tightwad-style) to use the A86, but now even the A104 will invariably grind to a halt a couple of times en route …

I need to book the tunnel and I’m so annoyed I didn’t do it last week when we looked as its gone up 
. If anyone knows any codes please let me know!!!
There is the cheapest which allows you to arrive up to one hour later than booked (no mention of being early). For 50€ more you can be up to 4 hours late.
My question is (having never booked on the tunnel): do they let you on early if space? So if I book the cheapest but at maximum lateness possible to ensure we don’t miss our slot but that saves us either booking at 50€ more or paying a fee would that work or do I totally not get the system??
Yes they did the last time I travelled by Chunnel. I would not fuss about the late arrival option unless you feel you may hit serious traffic or some other hold-up.
Plan your trip to have a pee break and and an expensive coffee at the terminal.

Not eecent experience but I learned speciically not to ask as then they decided for themselves when checking in to put me on an earlier one I strictly speaking did not have access to. In fact one even said since you didn’t ask so you’re not blagging it or taking it for granted etc ( or something like that) I’ll put you on the early one. Go where sent without comment and then you’ll find out.
That was over multiple trips departing on British side but a long tme ago.
Good choice in winter as the Tunnel is more impervious to weather.

Yes, this happens routinely, space permitting. On both of my last two recent trips, the automatic ticket machines volunteered - without being asked -whether I’d like to travel on a choice of two earlier shuttles.The only problem is that you sometimes don’t realise that the new departure timing is quite tight, and you have to race through the two countries passport controls and tear round the parking and holding areas to actually make the departure.
