Teresa,
have you read up on grafting? Not difficult if you understand the fundamentals.
How was the Summer reading ?

I’ve only just discovered this thread and it is very interesting! I loved Blackmoor Nurseries in the UK for mail order of fruit bushes and have been hoping to find suitable equivalents here. We have a (very) few local nurseries but the stock seems a bit limited…
However, what I’d really like at the moment is a recommended seed supplier for my veg seeds. In the UK, I found Franchi to be best on germination and they do deliver some of their ranges in Europe (at a cost) but I’d like to find a reliable French seed supplier if anyone could recommend one please?

I haven’t used them personally, but I had bookmarked this website - so I’m assuming they came recommended from another forum.
Biau Germe - organic seeds

We use the ferme de sainte marte, here:

And have got quite a few plants from promesse de fleurs

Thank you very much for those suggestions, Sue and Jane. I hadn’t come across any of those sites before so am off to explore!

Sorry for replying to an old post but there are a few plant fairs you may like locally.

In Charente there’s the “florale du pays Ruffecois” held in mid May

Near Poitiers in early May there’s a large plant fair

And near Niort there’s another large plant fair held the first weekend of June (repeated in October)

These all show their 2019 dates but they’ll be held around the same time in 2020. They’re each held over a weekend. All 3 are worth going to.

Hi Dizzy,
Hope you’re safe & well I’ve just had the scions I sent you in February returned as they weren’t reclaimed?

Do you really think that these plant fairs will be allowed to go ahead?

Nope

To be fair he answered in January! No one really had an idea then about the extent of this.

Apparently a lot of plant nurseries are going bust.

Yes, that is a real shame. What more worthwhile activity than growing plants for people to enjoy.

We’re doing our bit by buying online from small nurseries that we usually visit in person or at the foires… For once my habit of not throwing things away is useful as we still have lists of exhibitors from various events.

Agree 100% about shopping for plants from local pepineres , (or from local plant fairs when we are allowed to do so). In addition, although UK garden centres tend to be bigger and have a wider selection than their French counterparts, they also tend to be much more expensive. And that’s aside from the hassle of transport and the risks of importing unwanted bugs.

With you 100% on that one! Having seen the map of how pyrale first invaded france via just 4 locii of imported plants from Holland and Germany it doesn’t take much.

Our local garden centre is significantly more expensive than any I’ve been to in the UK or Germany. Guess it depends on where you live.
