I’ve lived with the Euro since day one and over the years I’ve considered €1.25:£1 to be normal. Anything above has been a bonus and anything less a pain.

I reckon that’s about right +/- 5c

I didn’t object to 1.60 though Paul, btw

I guess one upside to the lower rate is the benefit of not having to pay tax on the pension income

Only place I pay tax on a pension, is in the UK Graham :unamused:

…and down again.

Wonder if that was Mervyn King’s comments

It’s all within a pretty narrow range at present though.

Our two Govt pensions
are below the ‘free pay’ allowance so no tax taken in the UK.

Is any taken in France?

No one told me exchange rates can go up and down, since when did this start?

We used to draw our pension from a BNP atm but they started messing with exchange rates.
We now use HiFix, as good as anyother and less fuss.
Each month is going further into our overdraft before we get the next fix.
We dont think it will get better, and I think after next year the uk will go bankrupt, so we will not get any income at all.
Its a good thing we dont have much longer to live!

I’m a bit surprised my UK L’ Gov’ Pension is taxable

Nothing like a bit of positive thinking Barry

And we do not pay income tax anywhere, cos our income is so low.
It will only get worser.

Fear you’re right Barry!

Let’s hope the situation stabilises so that your worst fears don’t materialise, @barryandpat. Do you have the option of returning to UK? And if you do, would that improve your situation? If the answers are negative, you will have to make the best of the circumstances here in France, and the support available to you, which you will discover if you ask for help, which is the key to getting it.

The French are unusually generous in responding to those who ask for help, we find, although there are rare exceptions, as is normal everywhere.

Come on Barry things can’t be that bad as you said the same thing on AI for months and you’re still here.

I would take Peter’s advice and seek help from the Mairie etc.

Don’t get buying any green bananas or long life milk then Barry lol.
