Premier Ministre

While running to be president, Barnier’s proposals on these immigration occasionally leaned into far-right territory. He proposed as a candidate a plan to organize a referendum on whether to tighten the legal framework for immigration in France, even if doing so is banned by international and European legislation.

He also advocated for the opening of 20,000 new prison places and reimplementing mandatory minimums sentencing for a series of crimes and misdemeanors.

I’m sure you’re right John.

Used to get those little Clios as voitures de courtoisies and they were great fun to drive around our twisty local lanes.

Maybe not such bad ideas. Immigration is a problem, in many countries, the left denying that just gives the extreme right ammunition. And is there anything wrong with mandatory sentencing, seems fair to me rather then a lottery depending the judge.

Personally, I think he’s very sound. And of course, he’s from your neck of the woods :slightly_smiling_face: I wish him the best, he’s some job on his hands.

I thought voting for old white men was racist now?

My wife bought one in the early nineties. We used to laugh at those ads and I’m not sure they didn’t subliminally influence our decision on what to buy🙂

But the cars were fun - not quite an original Mini, but of that ilk

Your post made me think of compiling a list of simple cars of that ilk that were fun to drive, but in light of this week’s crash, I also wondered how many of them would have protected me sufficiently in a similar situation. Certainly the female Audi driver came off far worse than us. despite her car being newer, it was smaller and presumably much lighter - Audi hatchback v BM SUV.?

I don’t want to drive around in a huge tank-like SUV but think the little X1 is unassuming but probably meets all our most important needs (but can’t afford a new E one).

Returning to the thread, I wonder what Bernier drives - middle of the road up-market French no doubt. Also makes me wonder if any Western politician from a car manufacturing nation has ever dared own a foreign car…

Not sure cars are his thing. When he visited Peugeot in Montbeliard he arrived in an Audi.

I hate that G*News station, they are so anti-european and Labour but knowing about Barnier thought I would tune in last night to see what fartyarge was going to say. Actually he was quite polite about him and how intelligent a man he is but I think he is actually rattled and especially with Starmer wanting to forge new relations with the EU. Turned it off quick after that article, my hackles started to rise.

Imagine how David Frost feels right now… He couldn’t even make it as an MP yet his European counterpart has just become Prime Minister

The bastard hasn’t gone away.

And it appears he still doesn’t realise they’ve lost or the reasons why!

A better question is “Are there any British owned car companies left to allow a British Minister or even MP to ‘drive British’?”

Turning up in a official black TVR might send the wrong message…

OTOH, perhaps that shows cars are something on which he won’t compromise

With insights like this I can see why he writes for the Telegraph… :person_facepalming:

At risk of being accused of ageism, I wonder if her being 80 has an influence on the greater impact to her well-being.

Good for him !

We were only talking about him this morning, and how he was the one who actually negotiated, with no visible mandate, the sort of Brexit which has wrecked the UK.

Shameless.
