A quintessential sight in the Pays d’Auge: Saint Vaast, with its little church, its Commonwealth graves, and other hand-carved tombs that have stood the test of time. And the silence!

Interesting - so, from what I can gather the church was a field hospital in 1944 and presumably the commonwealth graves are those of former patients who didn’t survive?

I wonder why the second headstone on the right of the back row has a different cross on it ? 
Good question – you’ve got a keen eye! I’ll go back there as soon as I can to try and figure it out 
It looks as if there is a cross shape but with an engraving of Buddha in it. And my eyes need sorting, because this is the gravestone:
