No problems here in the Lot so far.
No problems so far here in the Charente.
I'm in Central Brittany and have no problem with reception of channels I've always received, including Channel 5, if this is still something you are asking.
I thought any changes to the TV would be a Christmas, you know how things work. Now it looks like it may be in the middle of the 6 Nations. I have reserved my ticket for France v England on Feb 1.
Not as yet, but if there is enough interest, I can start one. IN the meantime, I started a discussion last year on Six Nations, so that could be a "meeting place" for now. :-)
Here's the link: http://www.survivefrance.com/group/theemeraldisle/forum/topics/six-nations
Yes, Al... I have the ex-hooker's nose to prove it ;-)
Perhaps we should open another thread? I am new to SFN and don't know if there are any other (proper) rugby fans.
Yes, it was a cracker of a match, and agree with you on prices for rugby here in France. However, for us it was a defeat (Leinster agains the Saints) but we did hockey them last week. In fact, all four Irish teams won last week, including Connacht who beat Toulouse, only to lose in the return bout this weekend. I think it's a shame the English clubs are pulling out of the H Cup. Wonder what the French clubs will do?
I did read that some guy down in Barcelona was OK with a 90cm dish. As I understand it the 'beam' is somewhat egg shaped so you not having a problem does not worry me too much (in the nicest possible way).
If it was the Munster match on Saturday then I was there. Rugby is so cheap to watch in France, I only paid €13.50 for my ticket. Quite a match although a few penalties were missed from both sides. To be honest I was rather expecting USAP to get thrashed so they did quite well to loose by just one point, certainly got my monies worth.
Actually probably the opposite. The village is full of artists, poets and musicians and is always worth going to just to see them poncing about reading new bits of verse to each other or practising their flute in the little square - so I think a tuning fork might be a lot easier than rocking horse manure ;-)
Also, I have no idea how or why a tuning fork would help anyway, but at least I enjoyed the coffee in the warm sun - hard to believe it was only mid-October and still kind of summery here.
I would have thought that a tuning fork was harder to find than a quick app download but maybe you also have rocking horse sh*t in your neck of the woods;-)
Yes, I'm sure. But if you are out in the sticks and need 'something' I imagine the fork was a good standby. Dunno though, I just listened to what the bloke said.
Hi Al. We are east of you (in Lagrasse) and so far, so good with our small dish, we are still getting the important channels (= Sky Sports for the rugby). I don't know if we have Channel 5 on our platform (which differs slightly from the UK one as it also carries the Irish stations). We were having problems recently but it turned out to be a dodgy LNB which died last Friday. Got it replaced with an hour to spare before kick-off in the Heineken Cup! We have a bigger dish (somewhere in the cave) which can be hauled out if necessary.
Well I am down south (1h:30 from the Spanish border) and a 1.4m dish will get BBC HD plus all the C5 channels and More4 and the footprint of Astra 2E is the exact same (according to SES) as Astra 2F. So if you already get these and in HD then when they change over there will not be a problem.
You can actually get these with a 1.0m dish but then there is dropout at night and it really is not much good in even the lightest drizzle. Stories I have seen on the web about needing 2.4m dishes (down south) are just scaring people not to mention a quick way for some installers to make a lot of money (have a look on the web at the price of a 2.4m dish).
As I posted earlier Astra 2E will leave 43.5E and move to its new home during February. It normally takes around 10 days to move then a week or two of testing so I would think mid to late March.
As to IPTV well if the UK TV channels have gone to this extreme to stop satellite getting outside the UK it won't be long afterwards until they stop IPTV. Don't forget the words of EU which went along the lines of "If you can get it (TV reception in another EU state) then it is not illegal". This is one of the reasons why the UK broadcasters have gone this route. What is illegal however is re-transmitting a signal which the BBC for example could claim is happening via unapproved IPTV providers but only time will tell.
Rather than hunt around for a tuning fork you can download a seismograph app such as Iseismograph to an Ipod. I use one to balance the propellers & motors on my radio controlled 'planes. It shows vibrations in all 3 directions & is very sensitive.
No way, subscribe direct from Switzerland.
I wouldn't recommend 'French Zattoo' - only *two* free channels! http://zattoo.com/fr/en/channels/
Unfortunately my bank is all to familiar with this practice by Amazon and have recieved numerous complaints for the same thing. I have complained to Amazon this weekend and the poor suppliers has been given the job of answering me which is very unfair.
Sorry but in oyr kneck of the woods, Amazon and one or two others are as guilty as our own MP's are at getting their snouts in the trough. Sora Amazon have not commented on my complaint recent to them!
Hi Carol,
No problems. I trawled around the internet, did some research and came up with a perfect answer which is now working brilliantly!
No need for Amazon to be involved, no need to cloak my ISP but I have now got the solution if you need it any time.
Talking about Amazon, I bought a Christmas present for my lad off there on 10th December. They debited my card €69.98 and delivered it on 12th (amazon.es) which I thought was fantastic. However on 13th December they took the same amount of money again! I went to my bank this morning to try tyo retrieve this second payment but was told it would take 20 days for Amaazon to pay it back!
This is criminal and apparently they do it all the time - so if 1 million people spent this amonut of money on the day they would have 70,000,000 free loan for 20 days. You can imagine that they have billions, not millions of pounds, euros, dollars and rupees swishing around in their coffers at any one time - all based on enforced interest-free loans from joe public. You would think that this was fraud but apparently they are allowed to get away with it!
Caveat Emptor.
Well this is all well and good but most people just want their ordinary UK TV. My dish cost me 180 Euros and it works fine doing exactly what I want. We have TNT for French TV plus Orange via an existing dish.
Like many we have minimum ADSL speeds so those of you who get 3.5Mb or even 2Mb you are really lucky, I can only dream of getting such speeds. So there are no ongoing costs for either my UK and French TV other than the licence in France. So paying 150 Euros a year to get the same programs seems a little mad to meas after two years it would have paid for both a dish and the installation.
