Recent loss of UK TV Channels

Keith, we had a look on Hotbird Eutel which we have for German and Italian stations really and found BBC1 among the English language ones buried deep down (no HD though). Different satellite of course, but is there anything they are going to do to 'suppress' that that you know of?

A few weeks ago we had the return of the 5's after around 5pm! All other Freesat channels on line. We are just north of Pau in 64.

Neil

Thanks Keith. According to the blurb on the left we're already on 2F so if we can receive channels (strangely Ch 5 is back too) now we should continue to do so.

I'm on the southern coast and reception is fine. Is this also your understanding of it? Our local Sky provider thinks we'll only need a larger dish, but he's not absolutely certain as yet.

Some people living in Lerwick in the Shetlands who are moving to France early next year have said that some of the footprint changes will affect them as well. They already have irregular CH5 reception. So this looks like an all round mess. It also defies the 1989 EU Council Directive 89/552/EEC on the free circulation of televisual services within the EEA area. Lots of complaints coming up. Nice one Westminster!

Is there a map of the new footprint anywhere?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but this string has become so long it'd take hours to read back through all the posts!

Just checking in. Nothing to report at the mo as 2E is still being tested at it's 43.5e position. Good news is the trial dishes are performing well at the moment. I have noticed people posting on other sites saying they have had their dishes changed and can now get 5 etc. I still don't recommend any changes as there is no guarantee it will work with the 2E beam if it is slightly different. I think they are still looking at this month to move and activate but we will have to wait and see. I will post when i know more

thanks Andy. oh my....talk about living on the edge!

No one knows for certain unfortunately! We just have to wait and see!

hi, 6 months later we still have BBC and itv but does anyone know if this is going to stop - we are in the south of france!

Thanks John!

Hi Guys

The changes to 1,2,3,4 won't happen yet as 2E is being put into a different place then being tested before being put at 28.2E. There has been some changes where some more channels have been transferred from 1N to 2F. A list can be found at lyngsat.com however freesat users may notice that more movies and movies4en amongst the most noticable have disappeared. Just do a new installation. Although reminders will reset you won't lose anything saved on the hardrive if you have the record facility. PLEASE don't do a factory reset it is just a new channel installation.

John

No TV channel here (North Dordogne) yet. But I do seem to have lost Classic FM and Jazz FM from the radio stations.....

That is on Freesat.... On the Freesat information page it says that changes will take place "from 2 - 10 October"

Astra 2E is now in orbit, any one lost BBC, ITV or Channel 4?? If so, what areas?

Hi Keith

Sent you a friend request. I only asked as although they advertise 1m dishes i recently bought one from Germany without reading the description and it was only 980x880. I understand what your saying about competition not a problem

John

Hi Everyone

Just to let you know the launch is now scheduled for Monday as announced by Astra today. It will be 6-8 weeks before anything will happens so towards the end of November.

Keith what is the front surface size of those dishes and what make?

Thanks

John

BTW - just in case you didn't know, you can actually use your satellite meter as an amplifier for your dish. Just connect the amplifier to the end of the cable that's inside the house and turn the sound down.

Hi Celeste

Have you tested the signal for channel5 and 4seven between 10 and 12 at night? this is when most issues occur. The signal has been very good and settled for 2 months now so monitoring for a few nights should give you an indication. I have an 80cm on my gites just in the foothills of the motagne noir and we lose 5 at night. What is your postcode so i can map for my research where the 80cm works

Many thanks

John

Hi Doreen

Was it 4hd or 4 london? this is on 2f and may be the reason otherwise there has been has no other reports of disruption to channel 4.

John

Hi Andy

Nothing at the moment. Signal levels have been good for 2 months so looks like 2f has settled at last. They were pushing for end of sept but i can't see it being before xmas.

John

out of curiosity, i just looked at the signal strength here in st martial d'artenset.. 30 clicks north of Bergerac.. i have a Humax foxsat hdr wit duals and 60 dish.. same one i bought 6 years ago when i first set it up.. tp1 is 85% quality/100% strength, tp2 90% and 100%.. software dated july 2012 and no u[pdates available.. only ever have pixellation in severe rain all channels are available with hd being much better than normal transmission..

why my o.h want's to watch Eastenders.. and then in HD defeats me.. being an "eastender "myself.. it's apalling and degrading to us true folk of that part of london.. happy viewing all..
