Which sort of says it all really. If the French Défenseur des Droits is ok about not having a vaild home country passport once first CdS has been issued then so am I.
But on the form to apply for a passport from overseas they give using a photo booth as an option. As they know only U.K. codes are accepted that’s a bit odd. It has nothing to do with business models and a lot to do with common sense.
The dual taxation form they send for you to get signed in your French tax office is another oddity. The send an English language version with no translation. Very few if any French tax officials would sign a form they can’t read. When I asked why they no longer send the page in both English and French like they used to I was told that they have copies in French but only send them if the individual asks them to. Again a lack of common sense.
I think it’s an 80:20 thing David, or maybe 95:05 thing. The system is geared for the vast majority of people applying in the UK. I wonder if a UK code would work here for French people applying from the UK?
Without an EU wide database and standards and interfaces the permutations of nationality and location are pretty vast, 27x26x25x24…And of course post Brexit we don’t want to be part of it.
You’re ignoring the fact that it’s given as an option for people applying from outside the U.K. If they know it is not an option it shouldn’t be there.
I found that out at Stansted when I still had my glasses on from reading on the plane and the helpers at the automatic passport gates were making people including me take them off or the passports would not recognise us. Suppose it makes sense especially those who wear dark lenses and look like mafia or drug dealers.
Mine expires in June 2026, but I know folks in 47 who got theirs 6 months before me.
Hopefully someone gives La France a nudge to add a renewal page to the Art. 50 CdS application portal at some point this year as she seems to struggle with getting IT solutions rolled out rapidly.
You can leave the dark ones on as long as you give an exaggerated shrug, spread your arms slightly bent at the elbows, palms open and facing skywards and exclaim ‘but it’s my job, it’s what I do’
