Ahā¦ so this was NOT your own project as first intimated, but an information-finding exercise to add strength to your complaintā¦ 
you didnāt need to be shy 
wherever/whenever we can, we give as much help as we can muster 
and, reading the other threadā¦ when you talk about bricks/flaming wood (whatever) coming out of the chimneyā¦ Iād have phoned the Pompiers as we have too many chimney-fires/house-fires (and some deaths). Had the Pompiers come out, their Report would be a useful addition to the dossierā¦ and itās possible the Gite would have been classed as ātoo dangerous for habitationā (or whatever they call itā¦ and the Owners would find themselves in the mireā¦ and theyād have had to pay for lodgings for you and yoursā¦

Thanks, wished I had but thankfully nothing caught fire. Iāve been somewhat cautious rather than shy as owner is still protesting, unbelievable! Iāll update as things progress.
