Have you tried here?
How about trying boncoin? And given itâs now Summer, might be tricky finding something, but maybe worthwhile casting your net wider to pick something up shorter term to get you through the initial urgency. At least then gives some breathing space to find something you really feel comfortable with.
Thanks. I am having a look now.
Yes, tried Le BonCoin, but having tried to set up an account, keep getting error messages!
Thank you - I shall give it a whirl.
Have you come across Lay My Hat? Itâs a forum for gite owners and there might be someone there who can help you.
Another possibility is the Anglican Church in Aquitaine
Have you trawled Facebook? These days a lot of gite owners have moved their business there. Bear in mind itâs worth contacting gite owners whose diaries look full because they might know of someone else who can help you or they may have had last minute cancellations due to the airlines messing people about.
@letsmile is making a good point. You may have to move several times through the summer and find somewhere more permanent in winter.
Thanks very much for the link - Iâll certainly have a look.

How long do you mean by long? A long term gite or a normal rental? 2 very different beasts. Problem here in 24 is that gites are all booked up well in advance.
Iâm thinking longer term. My current situation is pretty dire, having sold my house at the end of March at the behest of a Divorce Court, in order to effect a division between myself and a former spouse, the Notaire doesnât appear to be able or willing to comply with the judgement, and retains my money, despite the intervention of an avocat. I am currently occupying the space of a host who, understandably, is fed up with my presence and who would prefer that I leave. I canât buy, until I get my money, and I need to rent somewhere quickly for the medium to long term. Rock and a hard place spring readily to mind.
Chris
How about putting a post on a local facebook page m(s) to see if anyone wants to take a âshort termâ lodger to again give you breathing space. I feel for you in that predicament. Iâd also persist with boncoin to search as thatâs where I was seeing places when I was researching rental charges.
This looks very useful, thanks, searching now for next place to try out.
One question, when it suggests you add your details, work etc, for âet vos garanties.â what do you think that might that be?
People (gaurantors) or some sort of insurance arrangement to ensure rent is paid?
I suspect it might be more complicated for us with all income in ÂŁ, though I am expecting my second France tax notice in July which I can also use?
There are different types, but yes. Essentially to ensure rent is paid.
hope you get fixed up soon Chris.
But to bring us back to the posted topic, the reason I am considering renting out long term is that even if not large, it is an income stream. If one has some money to use wisely can anyone suggest a better option than to buy a property to rent out ?
My wife and considered purchasing a second property for the same reasons.
In the end, we decided not to having read so many horror stories of nightmare tenants and of the considerable legal rights of tenants in France. Frankly in our retirement years, the last thing that we wanted was more stress and strain.
We have just sold our long term rental! Had it for 20 years plus and it has been fine with a steady small income, and no nightmare tenants. But we have decided that we no longer want the bother of leaks, and roof repairs and tenantsâs dossiers. It was managed by an agent but even so it seemed to occupy a certain amount of time.
We have popped the half the proceeds into an assurance vie for the retirement home, and intend to spend the rest! (Well I do, OH is less convinced)
Yes, Jane, spend and enjoy whilst you can enjoy it, a bit by for a rainy day. You never know whatâs round the corner.
