Roof solar panels advice

Watching a youtube video of a chap and his solar upgrades the video is constantly interupted by adverts but these interuptions were from Drax energie trying to claim that their whole strategy is on renewables, the lying bastards! The forest destroying, lying bastards.

I have had two lots come to my door this week trying to flog me roof solar panels. After explaining that the house cost more than was originally estimated due to the sudden (scandalous covid reason) increase in floor tiles, roof tiles and other items I could not possibly afford to have such work done plus I am now a pensioner with reduced income from when I worked. They just kept on about low costs, I would benefit etc and in the end (and my french isn’t bad) I just said “what part of not interested do you not understand” and shut the door. To be honest, this is a brand new estate and there are only a couple of houses where I have seen panels fitted, no one else has bothered so they are obviously targetting the roofs that are bare. Same with a certain alarm company beginning with V, wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole!

In the UK now, new builds have to feature renewables so solar is growing but the aftermarket sellers have a different goal, personal wealth at any cost.

Yes indeed - I am still in the UK currently and a contact of mine at our local business networking group is a (very good) home automation and solar panel supplier - he spends a lot of his time sorting out unsuitable or badly installed solar installations that have been put in by the “cowboys”. I think a lot of them must have moved across from selling dodgy double-glazing into this “new frontier”.

Yes how to make money quickly whilst stitching up customers. Open a new business in an emerging market, then move to the next big thing! Closing old Co’s as you go and stepping away from any liabilities. Call me an old cynic.

Tell us, does your second home in France have solar on the roof or in the garden, what about where you live now in the uk. Surely it would be interesting to you for your yet to be purchased EV.

If thats directed at me? Then yes, both UK and France, but it will be increased in stages in France depending on what we decide to do, move over or long stay visa or just occasional use, sufficient panel for running things when we are not there at the moment but still thinking of solar thermal for pool and/or hot water underfloor with heat pump backup.
