San Diegans Moving to France

We are also looking for MT and dentist. Made enquiries locally and farther afield, and were given the clear impression that preference would be given to locals.

But bonne chance anyway! You have only to ask.

Our GP is in her early 30’s and appears to know the SW health service like the back of her hand. Very concientious and caring.

The admin/sectretary for the practice (3 GP’s) is also a fountain of knowledge. Practice secretaries appear to have a very good network when it comes quality of hospital treatment.

True story. My MT was well over retirement age and one night his wife died unexpectedly. He retired the same day. The sad event caused a huge disruption locally as our rural area already had a serious shortage of doctors. My own situation worked out well but I have friends who registered with a not so reliable doctor and despite looking to change have only just, five years on, managed to move to another. Don’t expect the professional people that you rely on to always be there, they too are human.

I just remembered Karen that there is a school of dentistry in Toulouse. It is just south of J23 on the southern périphérique so is easy to get to. It is part of Toulouse University and is on a separate campus just east of the huge Rangueil Hospital complex.

My wife was referred there several years ago for a difficult dental intervention. The most experienced dentists and equipment are there. I have never seen so many dentist chairs and associated paraphernalia. I am not sure if they take casual admissions or if you need a referral from your MT. One thing is certain, as this is where most of the new dentists are coming from, SOMEONE will know where they are going to.

Personally I would just go there and ask around for information but at the very least a phone call would cost you nothing. I believe they are having an open day there today 8th Feb

Yes it will, my son and his wife initially had difficulty finding a GP in a rural area. The Oncopole in Toulouse certainly appears impressive!

When we came to France 20 years ago the Oncopole site was completely derelict following a massive explosion at a fertiliser plant. It even rattled our neighbours’ windows 45 minutes away. Since then it had been designed and built from the ground up, unlike many more famous hospitals. It therefore has very modern facilities attracting the best staff to work there.

The old AZF site? A friend of mine had all the windows blown out of her flat.

There’s a Titanobel explosives manufacturing and storage factory not too far from where I live. The commune where the factory is insisted, as a condition of the facility being there, that the company installed special blast proof windows to any property that wanted it. Most accepted as they not only got new windows but said windows were also very insulative and noise reducing.
