I guess it needed the waste to be more liquid to ensure it ran over that distance.
I second that. We had a macerator in a WC in a temporary position for a few years & learnt about non-return valves very quickly!

We have been trying to work out why our kitchen sinks were getting very noisy, and, in particular, when running the water into one sink it had begun to rise into the sink next to it. We did know why really… and the sink plunger did nothing.
Of course we knew it must be blocked somewhere and we had hoped that OH’s work in June of renewing all the pipes to the sinks and the dishwasher would sort it out. And we prayed it was nothing to do with the fosse.
But… it wasn’t to be. OH crawling around on the floor, with his head very uncomfortably inside the cupboard under the sink, the blockage would not succumb.
In the end we were saved. We called up a local expert who came with an excellent deblocking pump sort of thing…
It only took him an hour or so of kneeling on the floor with his head in the sink cupboard. He did also recommend getting hold of certain granules for degreasing the pipework.
We are very happy bunnies now. We had been washing up outside for several days.
Hence why I never wash anything up directly before wiping it well with kitchen paper. I also only use liquid Finish in the dishwasher and liquid washing in the machine for clothes as tablets build up a crust on the pipework over time and you can’t easily remove it.

St marc probably, and its crystal de soude? Caustic soda to the rest of us.
Yes common old sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) so please dont pay too much.

Yes, we tried caustic soda for a while but we stopped because it formed itself into hard lumps and probably helped to block the pipe.
We can’t remember when we installed the kitchen but it was certainly a long time ago, so I guess the blockage was bound to happen eventually.
We’re being much more careful now with wiping any oily dishes clean before putting them in the dishwasher.

Your Griffon Stex is caustic soda, yes if insufficient water it does turn into hard lumps.
