Here is the text of the letter we will be posting by registered post tomorrow:
Monsieur,
Cordialement
Good letter, it will be interesting to see what he says. I like the bit about cancelling the compromis now.
EDIT: I see the Welcome agency website has a plot of land in Marseillan. I hope it isn’t yours.
No, that is not us. The give away is “Le terrain est non viabilisé, mais tous les réseaux (eau, électricité, assainissement) se trouvent en bordure de parcelle.” We are fully “serviced” ![]()
That’s good, one less thing to worry about. ![]()
just a thought…
have the prospective buyers put down a Deposit… which they will lose if they walk away now.
If you cancel the compromis will you lose your right to said Deposit ???
We’re not that far from Marseillan. We stayed for three nights at Easter last year and the year before, near the port area which we really like.
I’ve already booked us in for next year.
Actually Jennifer. It could well be as the plot of land is not serviced, only our house is. The description of “Quiet residential setting, just minutes from the town center, the port, and the beaches.” They are all within 9 minutes of the house. It is odd how there is no price mentioned.
Ahhh, you see Stella, with our naivety in this matter, when he said he did not wish to put a 10% deposit down, we said “Sure, not a problem”. In hindsight, not a smart move on our part! Grrrrrr….
Drat and double drat. Let your experience be a lesson to us all.
Bona Fide Buyers are only Bona Fide if they put down a deposit and stick to the Rules. ![]()
Sooner you are rid of them the better !!
Is the plot area right on the website post, would you say? I can see your might not know if it’s your land because the photo only shows trees which would be hard to identify.
This guy sounds really sharp and not in a good way from what you say about the deposit. Did he find you through an agent?
Another red flag! He didn’t put any money down upfront and he expects you to wait until he’s got his customers lined up before you get paid for the property!!
Au revoir, matey. Unless they magically come up with the full amount in the next few weeks of course.
That is not a real pic of the back plot. Ours has decking all over it and a 10 by 5 m gravel area from the decking to a row of trees we installed to hide the new builds behind us which are two stories high…
So it may not be your land at all? Is the square metrage the same as one of your plots?
Phill went out with his electronic measuring device and mesaured both plot 1 & 2 and the front plot is pretty much the same size as the one mentioned online. But without an actual real picture, who can say…
This guy sounds more and more dodgy, best to get rid of him if you can because I can’t see him sticking to his word and will keep trying to delay. Whatever you do don’t vacate the property until it’s sold and you have the money!
Is there a French equivalent of FOAD/
Someone earlier suggested being charming about not cooperating rather than stirring things up when selling is important.
Did your agent not say anything? That’s appalling.
Get rid of them as soon as you can! Does the compromis equally allow you to renege without penalty?
