I used to have a small wind up torch in France, it was a freebie from SuperU, it was really good and I had it for many years, time to get another as we often have power cuts, don’t last long but annoying in the middle of the night. I think I’ll pinch your idea of getting one as a stocking filler for my grandson, they’ve just started going camping as a family, he’ll like having his own torch.
Any of the ones I have previously owned all broke within 3 or 4 uses of the wind-up mechanism, mostly at the wind-up arm, which tends to be the weakest mechanical point.
Yes, always a problem with chinese plastic products but I really bought it as a standby as often forget to buy batteries.
