Shingles vaccine

I’ve just visited my local pharmacie who confirmed what others have said - Shingrix is available to those of qualifying age without prescription, paid for by CV and suitable mutuelle. They couldn’t do mine today but it’s booked in for Monday morning.

Do people think vaccinations are worth having only if particularly at risk?

Surely all vaccinations themselves carry some risk especially if they’ve not got a long track record.

My younger brother is antivax because he got a very mild form of polio in the early Sixties as a result of being inoculated. But that was a long time ago, and today the pharmo companies’ scrutiny of new medicines is very rigorous (my sister-in-law oversees that for Johnson & Johnson and we have another old friend who does something similar in the UK). The potential massive litigious fall-out from any mistake makes these companies very careful.

I’m old enough to assume that I’m generally ‘at risk’ though the current COVID jabs are for the over 85s and other vulnerable sectors, so I won’t be getting one of those. However, today the risk from vaccination is far outweighed by the dangers of not being vaccinated.
