Smart tv direct connection to satellite dish

Freely is a steaming over the internet service.

Yes I know! I only mentioned it to combat any smart comments that Freesat is soon to die!

Iā€™d use Freely in a flash, but again, it is a problem getting a 65" TV over hereā€¦

Noooooooo, when,?

Expected by the end of the decade as users switch from linear TV to internet catch-up and streaming services.

I.e no plans to replace the existing birds at the end of their life.

I thought it was sooner, but only from heresay.

Ours is a 55" unit LG 55UT73, we didnā€™t have room for a 65" one !

Probably a shot in the dark, but worth asking - is anyone from SW France planning a trip back from the UK in a van who would not mind bring back a 65" tvā€¦??

Knock a wall out :joy:

Apologies. Let me re-word this: It is a problem getting a 65" tv over here with Freelyā€¦

Yes, I bought the 65 inch LG C3 last year. Its got the RF input but Iā€™ve never used it, still using a humax box and HDMI cable.

Does Freely need a VPN to operate in France?

I would imagine so.

AKA a mobile laundry?

Slight diversion to the thread.

We have two servimat boxes attached to each TV (one in gƮte and one in our house) and they are each connected to both satellite dishes so we can watch French and English TV.

A week or so ago all the english channels disappeared (just in time for the rugby).

Our electrician came by today to mend the oven and checked the head on the satellite dish and the splitter box. Both had a proper signal. But the box had nada. Tried reinstalling and still nothing.

He reckons we need new boxes, but we find it very odd that they both stopped working at the same time.

Any other numpty things to check please before we buy new boxes?

I also think itā€™s unlikely two separate receivers would stop working at the same time. Plus if it was a hardware issue then presumably the French channels wouldnā€™t work.

Do you have 2 separate dishes? One pointing at Astra 2E and one at the French equivalent?

Edit: ignore my question, I see you mentioned ā€œboth satellite dishesā€. Iā€™d check the UK dish is correctly aligned, and then try looking at the cable coming from that dish. Replacing a faulty cable will be cheaper than replacing two receivers.

Any storms or lightning recently?

Didnā€™t know you could use the Servimat boxes for Freest channels on Astra 28.2. If both boxes have lost the UK channels from the Astra 28.2 dish but not the French channels from the other dish then itā€™s very unlikely to be an issue with the box. Which Servimat box do you use ? Using a splitter to create two signals for two seperate boxes from an Astra 28.2 feed isnā€™t normal (you mentioned a splitter box) and if itā€™s a standard LNB will give issues. You should use a multiple output lnb and two seperate cables on each dish. Not sure how the rest is wired, but how are the two feeds from both dishes combined for the Servimat box ? Do you just unplug one and plug in the other or are they combined in some way or do you have multiple sockets on the STB ?

If itā€™s been done properly, Iā€™d expect two cables from each dish going through a pair of Disecq switches implying that the only common part is the dish and the LNB, so Iā€™d be checking for alignment and an output from the LNB first.
