Snow socks

French insurers. But since it’s a uk car it’s got to be a uk insurer

The video does seem quite convincing.

That said it compared performance on snow - which we don’t see much of in a typical British winter - which is more a bit cold, very wet and somewhat occasionally a bit icy. Especially in the midlands.

Now I get the softer compound thing but when we tried “winter” tyres on the SAAB they were a bit of a disaster in the wet.

Also - while the cost would not be extortionate, I could probably get a new set of alloys & winter tyres for £1500 for the S3 - I don’t have anywhere to store the things over the summer. And we have two cars.

So as a practical proposition, bit too much of a hassle I’m afraid

Option of 4 season tyres, Michelin machined off the tread on their 4 season tyres (cross climate 2) to the wear indicators, on a snow test track they out performed a cheap set of new mud and snows!

I used winter tyres on my 9-5 Aero ( I still miss that car) when we lived in Belgium and found them excellent in most conditions. One time I found things felt a little bit squirelly and couldn’t put my finger on what exactly was going on. i got out to have a look at tyres and found it difficult to stand up as it was just a sheet of ice. I can’t say I noticed much in the wet but that could just be my general insensitivity.
