So you're still wondering if you really need a mutuelle

message received and that's what we're trying to do on what is probably going to be our last weekend off for a very long time :-O

Bonne chance for the next couple of weeks and the forthcoming opening. Nice to see you back here, if only sporadically. Hope all is well with herself and kiddies.

Take it easy - Rilassati!

Cheers Carol, and yes mutuelle are always a sore point when it comes to paying each month. We're in the process of changing and are looking at anything fro 75 to 175€ a month for a family of 4. Cheapest I had a few years ago was hospital cover only at 10€ a month. With kids it's all the doctor's visits and medicine etc. Take care, A.

sooooo close but just didn't quite get there, the woman's still trying to get a mortgage and renegotiate the price - nothing's been turned down as such, watch this space! Been rather absent these last few weeks - will try and chat as and when I get the time, ci sentiamo fra poco ;-)

Just glad you are in one piece and despite not yet sold...am sure it will soon. Lots of luck with the shop opening, will be thinking of you. To keep this thread to the point.....as I am in my 50s and my OH not yet 65....we looked at mutuelle's and really were shocked at the costs... over 1000 euros a month. I have a hip problem brought on by my athletic days....it needs replacing sooner or later....thus I officially returned to the UK and worked so I can have the NHS...and he has been very careful for the last year...so he can now get sorted into the system as he hits 65. The cost for two people under official retirement age here makes health care frighteningly expensive...though I take your point about your accident.

Not sold, but you were soooo close. Ess aitch eye tea! Keep us all updated and take easy.

Hi Carol, I'm fine now (although, 2 months on, a couple of ribs aren't quite 100% yet) we've moved, house hasn't sold yet but we're in the thick of taking over the shop which we're re-opening on the 8th Oct. I haven't been here on sfn for weeks either as I'm simply way too busy. Hope things are good with you and that there's some interest on your place. Take care, Andrew.

Andrew....I dont know how...but I missed this entirely! I really hope you are on the mend now...and that everything going ok.....dont spend so much time here as I did...which is probably why I missed it....hope all is going well with your move as well...(have I missed info on that too???) take good care...and def. a good reason for a mutuelle!

Details please. Not your medical details that is, (unless they have something particularly interesting, amusing or gory to reveal), I meant which Mutuelle?

Thanks

There is an in between option that I have. It is an accident/hospital insurance. It is much cheaper than a mutuelle and kicks-in only in case of hospitalisation. Clearly insurance companies would prefer to sell you the whole mutuelle.

Thats fantastic - which mutuelle are you with I'd love to get a quote from them. At present I don't have a mutuelle as I work half the week in the uk, however my other half has retired now, so he could really do with sorting something out, any information you can pass on would be really helpfull.

Glad you are on the mend and hope the house moving is going well.

Please tell which mutuelle gives you cover for 21€/month. I'm jealous.

Age related in part, I paid €24 last year but I think it will be €40 this year for more treatments.

Thanks Terry

I understand your post - but don't understand my CPAM!

So I shall go there and wile away a happy hour or two in the queue hopefully eventually seeing a friendly and helpful person who can explain the details of our refunds.

Will report back!

All covered if you pay supplements, €24 for the year I think. I had two appointments with a natural medicine (naturopath) practicioner to look into the alternatives to the pharmaceutical poisons the neurologists foisted on me.

Thanks for the reminder Carol. Steve, beyond the bill I have vaguely described just before, I have been to the dentist already, am due for an eye check and replacement of glasses. I have also used up two alternative medicine appointments although I don't get that many admittedly.

Sure Andrew. I am now up to four MRI (IRM here) scans, umpteen other scans, two neurologists, the physiotherapist for another year and more specialists coming and that is after all the unmentioned stuff. Last time I added it up it ran to over €30,000 but must have topped 50k by now and should the specialists decide that I need a prosthetic shoulder whilst we are in the present process then I do not want to try to do an estimate. Also, since they have not diagnosed epilepsy after deadcert diagnoses and then nothing in the scans, that starts all over again with a sleep clinic to see if I have X and then treatment and equipment to find out. 100,000K will be left behind. It is unbelievable but going through it is an eye opener Steve, probably for falling out of bed!

Steve, my mutuelle costs 21€ a month so the calculation isn't quite right, OK it's a bit different if you take the whole family as other half pays 50 for her and the kids but then you have to look at all the child care costs which soon mount up! I've also had several other bits and pieces done which would have cost me many years premiums. But I think Brian's case is a better warning than mine with all the ongoing treatment. In any case, I'm on the mend and in the middle of moving house - the ribs and shoulder blade hurt a bit carrying the heavier stuff but family and mates are coming round at the weekend to help with the big stuff ;-)

you wrote the final bill will run into thousands.

It rather depends on how many thousands, lets say as much as 10 000, 30% of which is 3300€. Which is something like 2 or 3 years worth of mutuelle cost for a family. I'm imagining you are going to headbutt cars quite rarely, once or twice in a lifetime. Case not proven.

Glad you're ok, poor you.
