It was just a case of completing and submitting the relevant form so yes, I did it myself. I’ve been warned it could be 2 months before the CPAM processes it. In the meantime, my husband continues to be covered by my employer’s private insurance.
You should print the form off and study it because you’ll have to do it yourself at some point. You will have a LOT of form filling to do in France so best to get used to it now. You’re right that English is increasingly widely spoken in Strasbourg but the expectation is that you can do essential paperwork yourself so do yourself a favour and work very hard on your French, including your understanding of written French. Otherwise you’ll always be depending on other people’s goodwill. Sometimes the locals can be a tad grumpy.
