Another option I was thinking of was to just have a bioclimatic pergola installed, but that’s a lot more expensive and I’m afraid of having a permanent structure built around the outside of the house that may permanently block more light from coming in.

Yep! It’s the only brand I can find that does that so I think it’s unique to theirs. Don’t know of anyone that owns them… but it seems as though it would help avoid a lot of accidental damage during surprise wind gusts.
And will require a déclaration prelabke as a minimum if not full planning permission and may increase your tax foncière.

We usually get our parasols from Super U.
The mice got at the umbrella one year and our super neighbour mended it for us with her industrial sewing machine.
