Tempo couleur du jour - time to get the app

I’ve just done my sums and reckon I’ve saved €478 on the year to date, compared to the base tariff and €411 compared to the option creuses. I found the latter quite surprising as I would have thought heures creuses would be a bigger saving over the base tariff, though we don’t really apply much effort to moving things to off peak apart from the car.

Tomorrow, 29th December is a RED day, the first one this year.

Luckily, its going to be a warm and sunny day here so I’ll have loads of those lovely electrons whizzing into the house from the roof. Any bets on a second RED for Tuesday ?

Keep them coming hard and fast this week, we don’t get home until Saturday :rofl:

Betting on Wednesday for next one.

I read somewhere that there is now no issue about producing enough electricity. So as tomorrow is relatuvely warm for the time of year and yet it’s a Red day, I am guessing the choice has been made to increase revenue as much aa possible on the electricity that is used and not to particularly deter people from using?

So first Monday back at work after Christmas must have lots of machines being switched back on and appliances in use ?

Also does using a Red Day already, mean they think they’ve got enough for any cold spells ie no worse a winter than the normal nasty patch in Januaey?

By this time last year, they’d used up 8 days, if my downloaded history is right, which might suggest the opposite and they’re expecting more cold in the next couple of months.

I’m not sure if I can continue on Tempo as we’ve had a delay on finishing the living room so there’s no insulation. The bills will be crippling I suspect.

Or get some onesies

I realise it depends on consumption but we were on the tempo thing for a while, then one year I did a simple sum and calculated what the bill would have been using the same number of units on the standard tariff. The tempo worked out very slightly cheaper (less than a hundred euros)but I reckoned it was not worth the hassle of having to curtail usage on the expensive days, so we came off it.

As I mentioned above, for me it was a saving of €400 over the last 12 months, with the caveat that the house wasn’t occupied for a lot of red days last year. I’m going to see how the next couple of red days works out and I might change back if the saving isn’t worth the faff.

Yes the wattage is typically 100-160W or so. So costs the square root of not much

We did cassoulet today in the slow cooker. Stuff fried and meat browned off the evening before and beans soaked overnight. Did enough for three meals each just in case we had more than one red day in a row. Hate to think what three days of cassoulet would have done to us :dashing_away: but fortunately only one day.

Don’t worry, you’ve got one tomorrow

Yes, it came in about 20 mins ago on the app.

How much extra would an additional meal cooked have been on a red day I wonder? I appreciate that over the 22 red days, it probably would add up to be significant. But, I have to be honest, not sure I want to spend time trying to work it all out to the neareast cent. I do think one does need to be careful on the red days - all a question of balance.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a huge amount but yes, it can add up. We have all electric heating and running that during red HP periods can be very expensive. We have our heat pump underfloor heating on during the night and it heats up the floor very well and keeps the house warm for most of the day. As it was sunny yesterday and we have south facing patio doors that also heats up the house quite well. If we don’t have that then we may need to put on a jumper in the evening. We never need to turn the heating on for red HP periods. That and not putting on the washing machine and dish washer on red days means our consumption is very low. As we also have rooftop solar we can use that when it’s sunny. All in all, we spend hardly anything on red days and the Tempo tariff saves us a lot of money.

With our thermostat turned down and the log burner running all day, we were still €37 yesterday so I’m trying to decide whether to revert to base tariff or ride it out in the hope that we get our insulation done before we’re bankrupt :joy:

It was covered on the TF1 news last night, with a guy who seemed to be going to extremes including using battery lights rather than house lighting. That just feels a bit too far.
