That political discussion with occasional humour thread

That’s interesting. I don’t think my immediate assumption would be “gay”, but I’ve always believed my gaydar is quite sensitive—and I’ve always got on well with gay people, despite a complete lack of fashion sense.

I think the world finds dealing with couples easier, and perhaps couples can view single people as a threat.

There is (as always) something in what you say Lord Porridge .

Do gay people have good fashion sense?

I have many gay friends and I have to say, good fashion sense is not a characteristic that first comes to mind.

Ooohh , I don’t know about that. Remember poor old Harvey Proctor, accused, interviewed, life ruined…totally innocent.

My point exactly.

I really never in a million years thought Heath was guilty of any abuse.

I believe the technical term is “a joke” which, like most jokes, is based on a cliché whether accurate or not.

Personally the campness or lack of seems to suggest a more or less fashion sense.

Not saying he should have been prosecuted for what he did, but he was prosecuted, convicted and fined for gross indecency. Sex with then underage male prostitutes.

Edit: This was in the 1980’s and unrelated to the later investigations.

Most of my gay friends are tweedy happily married couples, some are less tweedy and more muscle Maryish but they are a minority. But obviously I’m quite old and so are the majority of my friends.

Yes, I was thinking about later accusations.

My mom warned me against single men who lived with their mothers into their 30’s, nothing to do with their sexuality, she just thought it lead to weird men.

She also said, when at 17 I was without a boyfriend, " the best china gets left on the shelf, only the mugs get used".

There is a small but distinct minority of men who have little interest in sex, and although they might marry because of relationship and have sex for children, it really isn’t of interest. It’s entirely conceivable Heath would fit that category, and was happy to be able to focus on getting on in politics rather than being nagged by his willy.

This has a bitter-sweet irony.

Like it, but think ‘The Donald Quixote’ or ‘Donny Quixote’ would be better captions.

Before he became Pres, Trump used to refer to himself in the third person.

So, you coming soon then, billy?

Zack Polanski could be the next politician in trouble, council tax or a possible voter registration offence. The Times and Dan Neidle’s people have dug this up.
