I watched the original episode (itās available on YT, but thatās the only full episode I could find). It felt dated and yet still very funny (and remarkably gentle).
SāOK - Iām a Yorkshireman which makes the comment ironic 
Also, I think you need to be careful with that clip - apparently it can prove fatal

I saw the racist meaning first. Then twigged, as Iām from the UK, the word ātoastā as in āHeās toastā after that. Which of course was what was meant.
But anyone whose native language is not English, and maybe even if someoneās native language is English but not British Isles, would probably get stuck on the racist interpretation, on reflection, sadly.
PS At least the joke was about toast and not brown bread

I wouldnāt have said that was racist - more factual - but itās incorrect, isnāt it? because slice 5 is darker than Sunak - and so doesnāt make sense.
Just stages of making toast, how feckin much must people read into this?

Itās not something you think about but at first I didnāt understand it. Itās just what jumps out at you. When I tried to understand it the colour gradations seemed to be the point which I felt was a bit iffy - first impression somehow racist.
It was only later, and by trying a second time that I saw the shape of the toast and then after that linked it to a word then the phrase.
Who cares? It 's what jumps out at you. And clearly not just me.
And btw I wonāt be bullied into being politically correct and all this pearl-clutching.

Just caught up with this thread. Until the racism suggestion popped up following the toast post it was and still is (to me) a clever take on word association.
Why is life now lived on eggshells? Living in a world of political correctness can be very wearingš
Surely itās not asking much to refer to brown bread as ābread of colourā?
Whereas toast of any colour is of course still ātoastā.

Not in America where the have at least 10 ways to cook an egg.
Iām sure the French have more (and theyāre more likely to be free range too)
In the days when we stayed in Paradores, when you could get a 5-night ticket for (relatively) next to nothing, I remember astounding breakfasts and the fact that there was a chef in the corner whose only job was to cook your eggs as you requested.
