The Royals

I can hear the cries of “No true Scotsman would accept such a thing” from here.

I can’t say that a royal warrant decides what I would chose to buy but invariably they do represent best of British standards, which compare favourably with European grand marques. Horses for courses.

‘Walker’s Shortbread supplies shortbread and oatcakes to the Royal Household,’

Preferred to Duchy ones…?

Yes the serfs get those, the king has his own.

Ah! Thanks for the explanation.

Though for all we know, it might be the other way round…

Walker’s pissed a lot of people off when they adorned their tins with the butcher’s apron.

And generally those Royal Warrants reflect the excellent quality of many of the products that have them.

I really am struggling with the idea that after the self-annihilation of Brexit, could the UK be so stupid as to try this again by abolishing the Royals.

Indeed, there’s an element of society that will take offence at any old trivia.

It does seem illogical that in the 21st century when there is a drive for “equality” throughout society the Royals still maintain broad public support given that they enjoy huge privilege none of us can ever to hope to attain. I can’t work out whether this is laziness on the part of the general public for not demanding change or a genuine desire to keep the status quo.

I have no strong feelings either way except that I wish they were “cost neutral” which would be easy to remedy, I doubt this is going to happen anytime soon though.

I look at them and the warrants in much the same way as I saw teenage girls swooning over the Beatles.
And none of the companies and products mentioned above have ever troubled my wallet.

I’ve noted that on these pages. Im glad I’m not the only one who sees the silliness.

It’s been thrilling belonging to this FRANCE newsletter…

In that case you might also enjoy the discussion of diesel prices in England(!)
