Tighter language tests

Similar story from my OH. He had a list of initials and surnames. He saw A. Curtain which made him snigger and look at the full first name. Annette.:rofl::rofl:

Daughter had a teacher send in list of her online pupils and one who was surname of Anas arrived online as Anus.

I should not worry too much yet, We had our interviews with the rozzers on a Christmas Eve. We eventually heard, successfully, in the following April.

I transported a Dog called Uranus last November and I see that quite quickly the association’s website re-christened him Uri. :joy:

There is a wonderful film with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda called: “Our Souls at Night” Try saying it out loud.

Your right, it is a wonderful film, and I was dead jealous of a couple of oldies gently progressing from companionship to love. Especially that he, like me, linked up in his local bar/coffee shop most days with all his mates who enjoyed the story that was unfolding.

But apparently the British end of the business, distributers or whatever, tried to persuade the Yanks to change it but, it not meaning quite the same in Yank, they couldn’t see it and refused.

I had a work colleague called Tony Death who placed a convenient apostrophe in his name which changed the pronunciation to De’Ath.
I built a small housibg development and the local authority asked me to name the road. Prior to development we rented the field to the owner of a Shetland pony called Monty.
We proposed the name Monty’s Meadow which was accepted.
When the road sign was errected it read Montys Meadow so lost its true meaning.

That was quick. I am at 6 months and counting though I know that isn’t long compared to some. Still, I am requesting nationality by marriage.

I’m still trying to establish if I as spouse of an EU citizen applying for five year CDS and >65ans am expected to pass a test. Anxiety will be my enemy with so much riding on it. We’re about to buy a house. Would obtaining a one year visa in the event of failure be difficult?

Categorically - no language test!!

Is that purely because of the EU Partner @George1 ?
Or because of the age, or both?
I assume that there is still no such advantage when applying for citizenship.

David, it’s the regulations on EU citizens and their families that specifically apply here, rather than any age related rules etc.

The regs also ensure there are

1.no charges for the EU citizen/family CdS in France,
2. that the administration must prioritise the processing of all such CdS.

Thanks for that, just as I thought, I passed the language test back in 2016, only to discover I didn’t need to then, but, due to the effects of ageing, could not do so now. Not just French, I frequently have trouble with English these days.

But if they were to withdraw the language rule, I would be willing to convert my CdS Permanent to full citizenship now. Really wish I did it when I had the chance.

I appreciate the reassurance

I can’t point to hard evidence. However, my assumption is that since the relevant EU regulations are all about facilitating freedom of movement within EU countries for EU citizens and their families, it would be difficult to think up a more significant barrier to EU free movement if each EU country could impose language requirements on EU citizens/their families as a condition of moving to that country.

What goes around comes around. French citizens living in Italy aren’t required to learn Italian and Italian citizens (like me) aren’t required to learn French. Thank you again Grandpa Neri for not becoming a US citizen. I suspect he wanted to but probably couldn’t speak English. It was probably tough being an enemy alien in the US in the 1940s.
