Times article on UK farming family moving to France

In my younger days the theory in GB was you bought 2 kebabs on the way home, one to soak up the alcohol straight away and the other for the next morning. In Germany the same thing goes with schnitzel. Schnitzel is a wonderful post-excess breakfast.

Hardcore Vero

I do remember one Friday on my way into Aldgate on the train, looked down and noticed chilli sauce on my shoe. Then the realisation that i did actually have that kebab on the way home the night before. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Shock horror, I’ve never eaten a kebab.

One of the decisions after a night on the beer. 1st, whether to have a kebab or not (usually yes). 2nd, will it reappear within the next 5 minutes

My commiserations, but there’s still time to not miss out.

I don’t think I have either, if I have, it can’t have been very memorable.

That’s three of us.

Though I have eaten Parmos, which are even more unhealthy.

Never had souvlaki, shish, gyros or any of the other wonderful grilled meat kebabs? Fair enough if you’re veggie although there are certainly vegetarian kebabs available too.

Still just a wanabee, or rather oughterbee veggie. Hard work, I steal the odd bit of sausage off Jules, but no more jambonneau or Toulouse but tonight it is the 2nd helping of my wonderful slow cooked boeuf bourgignon from the night before last and tomorrow lasagne. :grinning:

Entirely agree! Kebabs are grilled meat, which can be wonderful. Even the ones on a pole in basic kebab shops can be fine, and certainly better than a McD burger.

What about a Burger King Whopper - much better than a Maccy D :hamburger:

As an alternative, you could always go here …

Taken a few days ago in Bruges.

Unhealthy or not, it looks absolutely scrummy. Although I’ve never eaten it, I’ve looked at pictures on the internet I’d love some!

The most memorable was in a box which could have accommodated a large pizza. Parmo, chips, sauces and a nice dressed salad, from South Shields (weirdly).

Well, it’s from Middlesbrough originally so not so weird.

That is exactly why it was weird. At least three accent changes between Boro and Shields!

Invented in Middlesborough and popular in the niorth east so not so weird.

It took us moving to France to really get into the noon til 2 routine.
Many a times while househunting we were too late for lunch and MacDo was the only option.
Now - we have a selection of local eateries
for the noon - 14h lunches.

We also found it difficult to adjust to the noon til 2 routine - that and the fact that (not so much now but more when we first came here) lots of places (including our bank) were closed on a Monday.
We’ve got used to it now and anyway, we don’t each out much at lunchtime anyway. As late risers our petit-dĆ©jeuner is taken at around 10am ! So lunch is between 2-4pm and dinner any time between 7-10pm. Then bed time is between 2-3am.
