Rather surprised to read this Sue. As you may remember we have been searching for our next home in Lot and Garonne for almost two years. We have now found it near to Villereal.
Anyway, after our very first visit in 2023 we were driving home and without any prompting my wife and I almost simultaneously said that we couldn’t believe how friendly people were in 47. We have since found this to be true during our many visits. Had we not we probably would have abandoned the search.
It would be unfair to say that Bretons are all grumpy but there is a fair degree of moroseness and it does have the highest suicide rate in France. Having endured sixteen winters here I can quite understand why.
It’s so interesting how much variation there is - I lived in 22 years ago and would have absolutely agreed and then we went to Crozon in September and everyone was absolutely lovely. Top customer service and constant smiles! We couldn’t stop commenting on it!
Well we can only say the Visa staff at TLS Wandsworth are amazing, and since coming back ‘home’ to our house in France I love the community we are in. After a 20 hour return journey our neighbours welcomed us and invited us to their home for drinks - with a bilingual friend as they don’t speak English (and why should they) they also said we are welcome to use a large parking area they own for as long as we want - they don’t need it and have always let the owners of our property use it. I’m not sure you would find that community so quickly in the UK these days?
